The national touring series, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, was welcomed back with open arms as the Chevy Street Cruise set an season attendance record and car counts were high in both the car show and sportsman racing categories.
The Chevy Street Cruise drew 230 participants who paraded from Ron Craft Chevrolet in Baytown to Houston Raceway Park. The car show had 325 entrants on the first day.
The Houston Super Chevy Show presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts and Ron Craft Chevrolet continues Sunday with another car show, more sportsman racing and an autocross.

CAR SHOW REPORT: Marvin Alexander of Houston was led the Editor's Choice Top 10 awards, winning with is his '78 Nova. Also receiving recognition were Danna and Ellard Lambert, of Highlands, Texas; Michael Boudreaux, of La Porte, Texas; Darrell Neal, of Kemah, Texas; Phil and Sandy Rumfola, of Port Allen, La.; Eric Christie of Richmond, Texas; Jerry Raines, of Spring Texas; Ron Shindler, of Houston and Bob Taylor, of Carencro, La.. The Specialty Award winners were led by Reynald Bergeron, of Homa, La., who won the Featherlite Transport Award that goes to the show participant who comes from the furthest away. Other specialty award winners were Meg Cameron (ISCA Award), of Magnolia, Texas; Mike Churchman (Tremec Award), of Pearland, Texas, and Amy Kennedy (Young Star Award), of Tomball, Texas.
RACE REPORT: Clint Rigby, of Bacliff, Texas; Tim Ray, of Cypress, Texas; Nathan Gallagher, of Houston; Henry Canales, of Baytown, and Regan Jordan, of Ft. Worth, Texas were the sportsman category winners on Saturday. Rigby, driving a '71 Nova beat Scott Boyd, of League City, Texas, with a 9.875-second pass at 135.65 mph to win the Bracket 1 eliminator. Ray, driving a Camaro Z28 beat Jason Patterson, of Highlands, Texas, with a 10.607 at 124.03 mph in Bracket 2. Gallagher, driving a Blazer, beat Jack Caffall, of Deer Park, Texas, with a 11.714 at 115.74 in D.O.T. Canales ran a 8.005 at 82.32 mph to beat Taylor Richards, of Lake Charles, La. in Advanced Dragster. Jordan ran a 9.026 at 66.14 mph to beat Braden Savage, of Angelton, Texas in Sportsman Dragster.
