NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, JEGS Northern SPORTSnationals, National Trail Raceway, Hebron, Ohio

LOCAL RACERS MARSHALL, BROWN TAKE JEGS SPORTSNATIONALS TITLES

HEBRON, Ohio – Local racers Craig Marshall and Jeff Brown led all winners today for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and the JEGS Northern SPORTSnationals event at National Trail Raceway. Marshall, Columbus, Ohio, drove his ’98 Grand Am to the win in Super Stock with a lap of 8.943 seconds at 138.97 mph against Jeremy Duncan, Charleston, Ind.

Brown, Marysville, Ohio, went 6.782 seconds at 190.24 mph for the Spitzer Top Dragster trophy in outrunning Jamie Bridge, Napanee, Ont., Can., Brown nearly shared the winner’s circle with his daughter Logan who advanced to the semifinals in the Jr. Dragster class.

The Comp final went to Charlie Greco of Paoli, Pa., in his ’10 Cobalt and Dave Connolly, Elyria, Ohio, took the win in Super Gas. Greco ran down David Billingsley with a run of 8.871 seconds at 137.39 mph. Connolly, who splits time between the Lucas Oil Series and the NHRA Full Throttle national series won on a double breakout in his ’63 Corvette. Connolly’s dad Ray won the Super Gas class at last year’s event.

Steve Hoyt pulled off a double this weekend winning the Super Eliminator Shootout presented by Mosier Engineering in Super Gas on Saturday, then took his 2002 Super Comp dragster to the winner’s circle on Sunday. The Fort Wayne, Ind., racer took the early lead on a holeshot forcing final round opponent Dave Dahlem to break out.

Ryan Ondrejko grabbed his second national event win of the year in Top Sportsman while 63-year old Super Street winner Ron Steiner picked up his first win of his career. Ondrejko, Roslindale, Mass., out ran Ronnie Proctor, Harpers Ferry, W.V., with a 6.865 at 196.39 to Proctor’s 6.987, 195.70. Steiner, Hamden, Conn., won in his ’55 Chevy running 10.919 seconds at 127.11 mph.

Finishing off the winner’s list were David Ficacci, Whippany, N.J., who beat Tex Miller, Fayetteville, Pa., in the Stock Eliminator Final and Trevor Wilson, Battle Creek, Mich., ran down Michael Ruark, Blacklick, Ohio, in Jr. Dragster.
