BROWN, NEVILLE WIN IN ENGLISHTOWN
ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (September 12, 2010) – New Jersey racers Andre Brown and James Neville each took home wins for the home state before rain halts the racing action at this weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.
With rain in the forecast for Sunday, official changed the racing schedule and began eliminations on Saturday. Five classes completed eliminations with champions crowned prior to the end of action late Saturday night. Brown out of Browns Mills, N.J., took the win in Super Comp with a near perfect 8.906 (8.900 index) second pass at 173.38 mph to defeat Kathy Smulligan, Coopersburg, Pa., while Franklinville, N.J., racer Neville won over Bernie Staub, Dover, Pa., in his ’72 Vega in the Super Street class.
In Stock Eliminator, Dustan Lowell, Keningston, N.H., put his ’72 Duster in the winner’s circle holding off Jim Conte Jr., New City, N.Y., and his ’69 Mustang. Pennsylvania racers Steve Szupka, Willow Groove, Pa., and Tom Goldman, Allentown, Pa., took home trophies in Comp Eliminator and Super Gas respectively. Szupka ran 8.223 seconds at 157.01 mph in downing Al Ackerman, Saddle Brook, N.J., and Goldman beat Alan Kenny, Kingston, Ont., in a double breakout in his ’58 Corvette.
In the remaining final rounds that will be completed at an upcoming NHRA event, Darvin Martinets will face off against Darren Nicholson in Top Alcohol Dragster, veteran racer and reigning Top Alcohol Funny Car National Champion Frank Manzo will race Todd Veney, and Super Stock hitters Lee Zane and Sal Biondo will run for the money.
Northeast Division racers head to Atco Raceway for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, October 1-3.
