Woodburn Dragstrip is proud of each Team Woodburn Member who ventured north to Mission Raceway in British Columbia, September 3-5, 2010, for the NHRA Northwest Division Summit ET Finals. Woodburn Dragstrip’s 2010 Pro Champion, Nicholas Shepherd, got the weekend off to a great start by winning the gamblers’ race Friday which was worth $3400. Shepherd’s stellar .009 RT combined with his 10.566 ET secured the win by a mere .006.
On Saturday, Woodburn Dragstrip earned 29 points and took second place in the Track Manager’s Challenge which includes the Race of Champions in four classes (Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, and Motorcycle) as well as Junior Lightning, Junior Thunder, and High School competition. As a side note, we congratulate Bremerton Raceway who took first place with 31 points. Outstanding kudos go to Derrick and Thomas Jackson who earned runner-up honors in Sportsman and Pro classes respectively. Sunday’s competition would determine the NHRA Northwest Division Summit ET Team Championship, an honor that Woodburn Dragstrip has earned 13 times in the past. In addition, individual champions would be crowned in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, Motorcycle, and Sport Compact. Of special note is that Woodburn Dragstrip racers were in the finals in three of the five classes in competition on this day, namely Derrick Jackson (Sportsman and Sport Compact) and Danny Wargnier (Super Pro). Congratulations are extended to Derrick Jackson, who earned the Sport Compact Champion Title and claimed another “Wally” for his extensive collection. Woodburn Dragstrip earned 41 points, finishing fourth, and congratulates Mission Raceway who claimed the team title. In summary, we commend Team Woodburn racer and families who valiantly represented Woodburn Dragstrip. You have done well and we acknowledge the consistent effort you have demonstrated throughout the season. In the three days of racing, Woodburn Dragstrip had six racers in the finals. Derrick Jackson and Nicholas Shepherd earned wins and we say “congratulations” to all.
