RACE OF CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT U.S. 13 DRAGWAY
DELMAR, Del. (September 18, 2010) – The first set of winners were crowned Friday night for the NHRA Northeast Division Summit Racing Series Finals at U.S. 13 Dragway in Delmar, Delaware and the Race of Champions competition.
Steve Sisko, Iselin, N.J., faced off against Mike Fitts, Groton, Conn., in the Super Pro category with Sisko taking the holeshot off the starting ling with a .004 second reaction time and the win running 7.661 seconds at 170.35 mph. Fitts tried to run Sisko down coming up just short with a time of 7.829 at 171.20.
In the Heavy class it was Michael Larose taking out Phillip Truitt, Parsonsburg, Md., to advance to a final round match up with Steve Vancraenest, Oakland, N.J., who out ran Mark Hamel, East Greenbush, N.Y., in his semifinal round.
Larose, West Monroe, N.Y., added the final win light in his ’69 Dart with a lap of 10.500 seconds at 118.98 mph against Vancraenest.
The Street title went to Pittsfield, Mass., racer Bill Kirpens Jr., and his Dodge Dakota running 12.144, 107.77 as he held off the quicker Anthony Zangari, Clay, N.Y., with an 11.876, 113.07 final round.
The final in the Bike category matched up Mark Schwaim, New Ringgold, Pa., and James Perry, Pine Hill, N.J., with Schwaim first to cross the finish line taking the win on his ’84 Kawasaki in 9.209 seconds at 126.49 mph.
Racing continues Saturday with final eliminations for the Northeast Division Summit Racing Series Champions with more than 500 racers from 14 NHRA member tracks battling for both individual and team championships.
