NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Pacific Division

CARTER, TRUBEY LEAD WINNERS

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Racing kicked off for the NHRA Pacific Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series double header at Auto Club Famoso Raceway on Friday with time trials and qualifying along with final eliminations from the postponed Lucas Oil event from earlier this year at Firebird International Raceway.

In the Comp Eliminator final it was former Pacific Division and NHRA National Champion Dean Carter, Glendale, Ariz., taking the win in his nostalgia front engine dragster over Ed Sigmon, Chatsworth, Calif. Carter went 6.986 seconds at 189.07 mph for the win with Sigmon crossing the finish line at 153.32 mph in his ’34 roadster.

Local racer Eric Trubey, Bakersfield, Calif., grabbed the win and the trophy in Super Comp on a double breakout with Ed Olpin. Both racers ran 8.896 on the 8.90 dial with Trubey getting the win light crossing the finish line at 170.64 mph.

Val Torres and Bob Richmond rounded out Friday’s winner’s in Super Gas and Super Street respectively. Valinda, Calif., resident Torres drove his ’63 Corvette to a perfect 9.900 second (9.90 index) run at 165.38 mph in defeating Rick Beckstrom of Novato, Calif., in his ’03 Grand Am. Richmond, Glendora, Calif., went 10.887 seconds at 128.82 mph in his 1950 Ford to beat Justin Renoll, Herlong, Calif.

Eliminations begin today for the Auto Club Famoso Raceway Lucas Oil event with the rest of the nine different classes of competition joining in and looking to take home the trophy and bragging rights.

The following are Friday's final results from the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Pacific Division at Auto Club Famoso Raceway for the postponed Firebird International Raceway event:

Dean Carter, Glendale, Ariz., dragster, B/ND, 6.986, 189.07 def. Ed Sigmon, Chatsworth, Calif., '34 Chevy, C/SR, 8.579, 153.32.

SUPER COMP
Eric Trubey, Bakersfield, Calif., dragster, 8.896, 170.64 def. Ed Olpin, Salt Lake City, Utah, dragster, 8.896, 176.57.

SUPER GAS
Val Torres, Valinda, Calif., '63 Corvette, 9.900, 165.38 def. Rick Beckstrom, Novato, Calif., '03 Grand Am, 9.889, 169.30.

SUPER STREET
Bob Richmond, Glendora, Calif., '50 Ford, 10.887, 128.82 def. Justin Renoll, Herlong, Calif., '66 El Camino, broke.
