Houston Raceway Park to give away Carnival Cruise at Super Chevy Street Cruise

BAYTOWN, Texas (Sept. 9) - Houston Raceway Park's five-year wait is nearly over.

It's been half a decade since the drag racing facility has hosted the Super Chevy Show, a streak that ends this weekend when the national touring series, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, returns to Southern Texas for a two-day event on Saturday and Sunday.

The Houston Super Chevy Show presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts and Ron Craft Chevrolet is expected to be a fun-filled happening with a variety of events scheduled over the weekend.

It starts Saturday morning with the Chevy Street Cruise. The parade will begin from Ron Craft Chevrolet at 9 a.m. and trek through Baytown before arriving at Houston Raceway Park in grand style

The track is also giving a way a Carnival Cruise Line four-day Caribbean Cruise to one lucky participant of the Chevy Street Cruise. Various other door prizes will also be available, including $500 in Exxon Mobile gas cards, a set of GM chrome nerf bars, two Chevy truck bedliners, two sets of his and her Chevy watches, O'Reilly Auto Parts gift cards and much more.

"We want to reward the people participating in the street cruise Saturday morning, so we are giving away a trip on a Carnival Cruise ship," said Seth Angel, HRP general manager. "If we have 50-100 participants in the street cruise from Ron Craft Chevrolet over to the track Saturday morning, your odds of winning are pretty good."

The show will also feature three classes of sportsman drag racing; a first-class car show, including the new non-judged Bowtie Boulevard; Revell's Make-N-Take model-building program for kids; an autocross; a swap meet featuring several vendors and thanks to C.U.N.D.N Racing of Pearland, Texas, a portable dynamometer that will be available to all participants.

The Bowtie Boulevard, formerly known as Show-N-Shine, provides Chevy car and truck owners the opportunity to display their automobiles in the show lot at each of the remaining events on the Super Chevy Show 30th Anniversary tour. The cost is $35 per entry, and will provide each driver the same access of a full event ticket at a $5 savings.

The Revell Make-N-Take program gives kids the opportunity to enjoy the same thrill as their car enthusiasts parents by putting together snap-on car kits with help from expert model builders. The program will be held from noon-2 p.m. both days of the event in the newly constructed Tower Club.

The autocross, which has become popular at other Super Chevy Show events this season, is scheduled for 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday. It offers single runs over a road-type course, with competitors racing against the clock.

C.U.N.D.N. Racing's portable dynamometer will be available near the Manufacturers Midway both days of the event. Participants will be able to measure the rear wheel horsepower and rear wheel torque of their
automobiles. It will also record various engine parameters, including air fuel ratio of each participating vehicle. It was also produce a simulated quarter-mile printout. It's anticipated that each test will take approximately 20 minutes.

The Manufacturers Midway will be lined with several vendors, including O’Reilly Auto Parts, Ron Craft Chevrolet, Original Parts Group, GM Performance Division, Super Chevy Magazine, Featherlite Trailers, Royal Purple Synthetic Oil, Green Mountain Monogram, Minnesota Pneumatic, Metro Moulded Parts, John’s Trim Shop and Arctic Cat.
