KANSAS RACERS LEAD RACE OF CHAMPIONS WINNERS
TOPEKA, Kan. (September 19, 2010) – Todd Piper, Wamego, Kan., and Troy Ross, Emporia, Kan., lead Saturday’s winners for the NHRA Summit Racing Series West Central Division Race of Champions at Heartland Park Topeka.
Piper took the trophy in Super Pro running a final round lap of 7.536 seconds at 178.14 mph to defeat Curt Humann, Pierre, S.D., who left early with red light foul start.
Fellow Kansan and local racer Ross beat Wichita, Kan., resident Chris Gray in the Pro semifinals with his ’69 Nova then ran down Tadd Larson, Bagley, Minn., in the final at 10.055, 126.98.
Sportsman racer Mike Wymore, Oskaloosa, Iowa, drove his ’73 Barracuda to the win over Troy Singleton, Evansville, Wyo. Wymore had the starting line advantage with a .005 second reaction time then ran 12.076 seconds on a 12.02 dial.
Also taking wins on Saturday and celebrating in the Race of Champions winners circle were Curtis Spracklin, Omaha, Neb., in Pro Bike and Shad Bodey, Rye, Colo., in the High School class. Spracklin went 8.960 seconds at 140.85 mph on his ’00 Kawasaki to beat out Jason Clampitt, Lino Lakes, Minn., while Bodey barley edged out Taryn Colson, Blunt, S.D., running 12.314 seconds at 111.38 mph to Colson’s 12.620, 107.60
Racing continues on Sunday with elimination rounds and the crowning of the NHRA Summit Racing Series West Central Division Champions.
