Great Lakes Nostalgia Funny Car Circuit - In the Groove Newsletter

SkyView Drags Tioga Center, NY
Marion County International Raceway, LaRue, OH
September 4th, 2010
Skyview Drags put together a spectacular show to honor the local first responders, military and safety personnel.
This show included The Chattanooga Choo Choo and Cannon Ball Express jet trains, Bob Motz's Jet Kenworth, Ken Nelson's wheel standing Cool Bus and 6 cars from The GLNFCC.
The night started out with a tribute to The Home Town Hero's, which included a precession of fire trucks and other rescue vehicles from some of the local fire departments.
The GLNFCC was out first with Sharky's Machine Omni and The New Generation Corvette roaring out with two great burnouts as The National Anthem came to a close. Sharky's Machine took the win, as the Corvette got a little sideways.
Next pair was The Excalibur Corvette taking on The Sweetman Brothers Citation. This car is a survivor of the 80's match racing circuit. The Citation was off first and never looked back.
The next pair was The Visionary Cuda taking on the always-tough Total Insanity Monza. Both cars did 1/8-mile burnouts and then did three great dryhops. The Monza was out first and just hung on for the win, 4.75/147.48 to the Cuda's 4.79/147.15
The night had turned cold and the management decided to cut the runs short and only make two rounds. We came back to finish the night with The Total Insanity Monza taking on The Sweetman Brothers Citation. Drew did not repeat his award winning reaction time from the first round, The Monza was out first and bettered his ET from the first round with a 4.69/147.64
Second pair was The Excalibur Corvette and The Sharky's Machine Omni. Both cars thrilled the crowd with smoky burnouts and the Omni did a few dryhops. Unfortunately the Corvette had some problems and was shut off on the line. The Omni soloed for the win.
Last pair was The New Generation Corvette against The Visionary Cuda.
Both cars did killer burnouts; there was so much smoke it took a few seconds to clear before you could see the cars.
The Corvette seem to hook up better on this pass as he ran the 1/8 mile at 4.72/148. The MPH was a new track record for nostalgia funny cars.
Winner
Drew Sweetman
Driver of
Sweetman Brothers
After we ran, the wheel stander and jets wowed the spectators one more time. The show ended with a greatfireworks show.
The Good Vibration Reaction Time award went to Drew Sweetman Driving The Sweetman Brothers Citation.
The Herculiner Tough Luck award went to Scott Hohensee driving The Visionary Cuda with a lose margin of .039 against The Total Insanity Monza.
Chris Massarella in The Total Insanity Monza won the event. He also won the event we had here in May, so Chris leaves the race being the king of the hill.
Thank you to Herculiner, Peak Antifreeze, Good Vibrations and Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels for your support.
Thanks to the fine folks at Skyview drags for providing us a safe and exciting racetrack. We look forward to being a part of Skyviews 2011 schedule.
Next stop U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan for their Funny Car Nationals on September 11th.
