BOYER, BARASKI, LINNABARY, HASTINGS SCORE IN VP RACING FUELS RACE OF CHAMPIONS
INDIANAPOLIS, (September 18, 2010) – Racing kicked off on Friday and ran into the night for the NHRA North Central Division Summit Racing Series Finals with the VP Racing Fuels Race of Champions highlighting the day’s activities and crowning the first set of champions for the weekend’s event at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis.
It was an all Indiana home state final in Super Pro with Logansport, Ind., resident Ray Boyer III taking his ’06 dragster to the win with a time of 5.153 seconds at 132.02 mph. Boyer faced off with Tony Virgilio of Cloverdale, Ind., in the final.
Fellow Indiana racer Donnie Baraski worked his way through the field in the Bike/Sled class posting a winning run of 8.397 seconds at 149.98 mph on his ’96 Suzuki in the final against Bob Boruta. Boruta, Kent City, Mich., went 9.176 at 142.57 on his ’99 Polaris in the motorcycle vs. snowmobile final.
John Linnabary II and Nichols Hastings also took wins and the trophies in the Pro and Sportsman classes respectively. Linnabary, Taylor, Mich., covered Justin Smiddy, Newburgh, Ind., with a lap of 5.832 seconds at 119.22 mph in his ’79 Z28 to Smiddy’s 6.122, 110.92. Hastings, Shelby, Ohio, went 12.404 seconds in his ’83 Ford for the win against Tony Lyons, Ashkum, Ill., and his ’89 Mustang.
Racing continues Saturday with final time runs and early rounds of eliminations for the more than 800 racers who have made their way from across the region in search of both individual and team championships. Final eliminations take place on Sunday with racing schedule to begin at 8 a.m.
