BRAINERD, Minn. - Superbikes on the Competition Road Course, bracket drag racing on the drag strip and the chance for a driver to walk away with the honor of King of the Track - all of that is in store for race fans this weekend at Brainerd International Raceway.
With only two racing weekends left on the schedule for the Bracket Drag Racing Series, points are at a premium. Next weekend's race will give drivers a chance to move up in the series' points standings as they battle for a series championship. The five race series concludes Oct. 1-2.
The drag racers are also competing for the prestigious title of King of the Track, an annual competition among the top drag racers competing in the series. On Saturday, the two racers with the most points in each of the eight adult classes will race to determine who will represent each class in the run-off. Those drivers will then be paired up in an elimination format, with the winner receiving a coveted Wally trophy, just like the pros win during the NHRA Nationals.
While the drag racers are slugging it out on the drag strip, the 2.5-mile Competition Road Course will be busy with the Central Roadracing Association's Superbike Racing. Featuring a variety of classes, CRA racing showcases some of the top amateur riders in the Upper Midwest as they fly around BIR's 13-turn track at speeds pushing 100 mph. The CRA races at BIR five times this season; after this weekend, the last chance to see Superbike Racing at BIR is Sept. 23-25.
Superbike Racing runs rain or shine. All three days include practice sessions and racing.
Friday's drag racing schedule includes an open Test & Tune day, followed by qualifying on Saturday and eliminations on Sunday.
This weekend’s racing event is a Dual Event Weekend at BIR, meaning fans get two great racing events with a single ticket. Daily admission is $10 for adults and $5 for kids ages 6-12. On-site camping is available. Get you tickets at the gate.
Now in its 43rd season, Brainerd International Raceway is one of North America’s largest race tracks, featuring a world-class quarter-mile drag strip, the 3.1-mile, 10-turn Donnybrooke Road Course, the 2.5-mile, 13-turn Competition Road Course, 300 acres for rustic camping, 164 full-service RV sites and 12 on-site condos.
