REICHERT, BOHL WIN IN INDY
INDIANAPOLIS – Bill Reichert and Andy Bohl each picked up wins as they worked their way though eliminations at O’Reilly Raceway Park for the Lucas Oil Spring Spectacle of Speed in the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car classes respectively.
Reichert, Owosso, Mich., dominated the field recording low elapsed times in each round of eliminations saving his best run of the day for his final round against Ken Perry, Richmond Hill, Ont. Reichert clocked in at 5.320 seconds at 265.85 mph to Perry’s 5.424 at 260.41 mph.
Perry’s final round appearance assured him a berth in the prestigious JEGS Allstars as the North Central division’s rep in the best-of-the-best competition between NHRA’s seven geographic divisions. Reichert will also be competing in the event as the defending JEGS Allstar champion.
Bohl, Racine, Wis., will head to Route 66 Raceway on the division’s JEGS Allstar team as well, and will do so with some momentum as he outran No. 1 qualifier Brent Henry, Breckenridge, Colo., in his ’07 Mustang in the funny car final. Bohl ran 5.663 seconds at 254.81 mph to a slowing Henry at 6.288, 171.62.
Indiana racers Larry Roedel and Edward Dudley joined in on the celebration as Roedel, Evansville, Ind., put his ’27 roadster in the winner’s circle beating Steven Hoyt of Fort Wayne, Ind., in Super Gas. Dudley, Fishers, Ind., held off John Coughlin, Delaware, Ohio, for the win in Top Dragster at 6.876 seconds, 184.17 mph.
In Comp Eliminator it was Mike Farrell, Louisville, Ky., taking the win when Ray Vierheller III broke in the final round while Frankie Morris, Bardstown, Ky., won over Jeff Dona, Gordonville, Mo., in a battle of ’69 Camaros in Super Stock.
Edmond Richardson, Greenbrier, Tenn., led the rest of the winner’s as he knocked off Randy Wilkes, Zanesville, Ohio, in Stock Eliminator; Tony Elrod, Lima, Ohio, won over Steve Mikus, Ashley Mich., in Super Comp; Rudy Matthews, Ohio City, Ohio, ousted Raymond Miller, Mansfield, Ohio, in Super Street, and Than Martin, Washington, Ill., took the Top Sportsman class in defeating Marco Abruzzi, Warren, Ohio.
North Central Division racers head to Route 66 Raceway for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, June 11-13.
