Southeast Division Race of Champions, Gainesville Raceway

BRADENTON MOTORSPORTS PARK AND SUNSHINE DRAGSTRIP DOMINATE THE SOUTHEAST DIVISION SUMMIT RACING SERIES RACE OF CHAMPIONS

GAINESVILLE, Fla., (March 15, 2011) – Drivers from the Southeast Division in the NHRA Summit Racing Series gathered at Gainesville Raceway for the annual Race of Champions event. Run in conjunction with the Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals, the 2010 top points earners from each track in the Southeast Division faced off to be crowned the winner of their class in the Race of Champions on Sunday. Sunshine Dragstrip, Clearwater, Fla., and sister track, Bradenton Motorsports Park, Bradenton, Fla., swept the event this weekend by having drivers from their tracks win all four competing classes.

Mark Ciechowski, Clearwater, Fla., made it through the twelve-car field and defeated Mark Mullen in the finals to become the Super Pro Race of Champions winner. Driving his ’02 dragster with a Chevy 588 engine, he ran a final time of 4.978 seconds at 133.99 mph and brought home a win for his home track, Sunshine Dragstrip.

Bradenton Motorsports Park driver’s dominated the rest of the event. In Pro, Chris Adams and Joe Tillman, Longwood, Fla., raced the strip in their 1970’s vehicles in the final round. Adams, Bradenton, Fla., was victorious in his ’76 Vega running at 6.669 seconds at 95.82 mph.

In Sportsman, Kevin Roberts, St. Petersburg, Fla., and his ’02 Corvette faced off against Mike Jubinski, Crestview, Fla., and his ’71 Dodge Demon. Roberts ran his Corvette for 8.423 seconds at 85.89 mph to beat out Jubinski’s run of 9.661 seconds at 72.21 mph.

Bringing home the third and final trophy for Bradenton Motorsports Park in Motorcycle was the driver from Venice, Fla., Roy Hagadorn. Hagadorn, the 2008 Motorcycle Southeast Division champion in the Summit Racing Series made it back to the winner’s circle on Sunday after defeating Eddie Torres, Farjado, Puerto Rico. Racing with his ’81 Suzuki, Hagadorn ran for 5.628 seconds at 118.18 mph in the final round.
