Parma Heights, Ohio (March 4, 2011) – The Quarter Mile Foundation will be gathering interviews during the Gatornationals weekend (March 10-13) at the Don Garlits Drag Racing Museum and at the race track.
“Thanks to the generosity of Don Garlits and the staff of the NHRA owned racetrack, we have two great venues to reach a goodly number of pioneers who will be in the Gainesville-Ocala Florida area during the week. The fact that Don’s Installation Banquet for the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame precedes the beginning of race qualifying, and that the NHRA’s year-long celebration of their 60th anniversary begins with the ‘Gators’ will bring a large number of the legendary pioneers to the area,” observed Traci Hrudka, Foundation chairman.
“We have been working with Steve Gibbs and Eileen Daniels, along with Don Garlits, to line up the people we need to reach for interviews.”
Conducting the interviews will be noted drag racing journalist and historian Don Gillespie. Don’s passion for the sport’s history is well documented, and his own documentary film on the iconic Lions Drag Strip is highly acclaimed.
While the interview list is still taking shape, several notables (not all are listed) who will be interviewed include Bob Stange (Strange Engineering), Joe Mondello, Chris Karamesines, Don Garlits, T.C. Lemmons, Jerry and Darrell Gwynn, Arnie (“ The Farmer”) Beswick, Rich Guasco, Marvin (“Starvin’ Marvin”) Graham. Each of these interviewees has placed their mark on the sport and the automotive performance aftermarket industry, helping contribute to the foundation of each across the decades.
