NHRA JEGS Cajun SPORTSnationals, Saturday from No Problem Raceway

WOFFARD LEADS SATURDAY’S WINNERS FOR JEGS CAJUN SPORTSNATIONALS

BELLE ROSE, La. (March 19, 2011) – Lloyd Wofford led the list of winners on Saturday’s at No Problem Raceway and the NHRA JEGS Cajun SPORTSnationals. The Jonesboro, Ark., racer took the win in the Super Stock Hemi class with an 8.620 second, 156.23 mph lap in his ’68 Barracuda. Wofford faced Steve Kent, Lottie, La., in the final with Kent’s Barracuda experiencing problems about half track.

Houma, La., resident Joseph Mahana took the Top Sportsman Shootout win in his ’70 Camaro, running 210.37 mph in 6.472 seconds. Mahana knocked off Bob Gulitti, Tomball, Texas, and Earl Folse, Raceland, La., on his way to the final. The Top Dragster Shootout trophy went to Jenifer White, Conroe, Texas, when she out ran No. 1 qualifier Michael Kile. White went 6.590 at 206.23 to Kile’s 6.836 at 200.03.

In the King of the Bayou race it was Ray Dew, League City, Texas, being crowned the King with a near perfect run in his Super Street final against Jody Simoneaux, Napoleonville, La. Dew beat Simoneaux with a 0.004 second reaction time and a perfect 10.900 second run on a 10.90 second index giving him the best winning package between the three super class winners. Dan Foley, McKinney, Texas, won in Super Comp against Kurt Dameron, Fruitland Park, Fla., and Sherman Adcock downed Tommy Phillips in the Super Gas final.

Jeff Dona rounded out the winner’s of Saturday’s eliminations taking the honors in the Stock/Super Stock CIC race. Dona, Gordonville, Mo., ran down local racer Jeff Tueton, Houma, La., in his ’98 Pontiac.

Final rounds of qualifying were also run today and fields are set for tomorrow’s eliminations. Lee Adkins and Jerry Holt held onto their No. 1 spots from Friday. Holt, Collinsville, Okla., drove to a 6.347 second, 220.26 mph No. 1 qualifying run while Adkins bettered his time from Friday with a 6.190 second run in is ’68 Camaro.

A pair of Louisiana racers also held on to their No. 1 spots from Friday in Kile and Teuton. Kile, Westlake, La., not only held on but bettered his time from Friday with a pass of 6.423 seconds at 214.21 mph in Saturday’s qualifying. Teuton kept his ’09 Challenger on top, running 10.846 seconds in the quarter mile.

Other No. 1 qualifiers this weekend are Jerry Silveus in Super Stock and Jacob Verscla in the Sportsman Motorcycle series presented by Harley Davidson. Silveus made the trip from Van Buren, Ohio, while Verscla came down from, Kewanee, Ill.

Racing continues Sunday at No Problem Raceway at 9 a.m. Gates open at 8 a.m. Round 1 of Top Dragster is set for 10 a.m. followed by first round of eliminations for Comp Eliminator and Top Dragster
