Perfect forecast helping fuel one of the largest advance sales in IHRA Nitro Jam history

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (March 29, 2011) – It appears the IHRA isn’t the only one excited to be returning to San Antonio this weekend.

In advance of one of the largest Nitro Jam events of the year, a staggering amount of tickets have already been sold making this weekend’s San Antonio Nitro Jam one of the largest advance sales in history. And when you add in the near perfect forecast for the weekend, IHRA Nitro Jam officials are predicating one of the biggest weekends ever when the fastest cars in the world take to the track at San Antonio Raceway this Friday and Saturday.

“When we added San Antonio to the schedule late last year we knew it would be a big event, but you never know exactly how big something like this will be until you get there,” said Nitro Jam President Aaron Polburn. “To see this many people already lining up to see Nitro Jam’s return to Texas with the new format and all of the new classes is exciting. Fans are in for a real treat as we present them with some of the best nitro racing on the planet and a huge show to boot. I can’t wait.”

The 2011 San Antonio Nitro Jam will mark the first time the series has raced in San Antonio since 2008. Always a popular destination for the nitro-centered drag racing series, it has been three long years since the Alamo City has experienced Nitro Jam’s brand of motorsports entertainment, but that will all change this weekend as Nitro Jam brings in a record five nitro classes, hundreds of sportsman racers from across the country and a huge thrill show making for an unforgettable weekend of racing and entertainment.

At the heart of the Nitro Jam event are five very unique – and very fast – nitro-burning classes headlined by the return of quarter-mile Top Fuel racing. Featuring the only quarter-mile Top Fuel action in the country, former world champions Bobby Lagana Jr. and Bruce Litton will duke it out in a 320 mile-per-hour slugfest for a shot at Nitro Jam’s top prize – an Ironman trophy.

In addition to the stars of Top Fuel, San Antonio Nitro Jam fans will also get to see one of the most popular classes in the country as eight of the best Prostalgia Nitro Funny Cars in the land travel to Texas for a huge shootout Friday and Saturday night. These 3,000 horsepower Funny Cars will also be joined by the 100 percent nitro-powered Pro Fuel Dragster class, 220 mph Nitro Harleys and the insane competitors making up the Nostalgia Fuel Altered division.

Joining the nitro racing will be a host of thrill acts designed to add a little firepower to the lineup. Among the exhibition acts will be a 300 mph showdown between Jill Canuso in the “Queen of Diamonds” jet dragster and Terry Rosberg in the “Jersey Thunder” machine, Bob Hall’s “Airborne Express” wheelstander and a monster showdown between the 30,000 horsepower Shockwave jet semi and the world famous Grave Digger monster truck.

Grave Digger made its Nitro Jam debut last weekend in Tucson to the enjoyment of the capacity crowd as Randy Brown turned Grave Digger from a crushing machine into a drag racing star. Performing one of the biggest burnouts ever on a pair of 66 inch tall tires, Brown and Grave Digger put on a “monster” show battling the biggest jet truck in the world and now that incredible showdown is coming to San Antonio this weekend.

Finally, the San Antonio Nitro Jam will feature two days of championship sportsman racing featuring the best racers from across the nation battling for an IHRA Ironman and a spot in the year-end Summit Racing Tournament of Champions.

Gates open both days at 9 a.m. with sportsman racing throughout the morning and afternoon. FanFest will begin both days at 5:30 p.m. followed by two rounds of Nitro Jam beginning at 7 p.m. All of the professional nitro classes and exhibition acts will run twice each night.

Tickets are still available and start at just $25 if purchased in advance by visiting www.nitrojam.com or by calling (210) 698-2310. Don’t miss Nitro Jam’s return to San Antonio this weekend at San Antonio Raceway!
