NHRA JEGS Cajun SPORTSnatinals, No Problem Raceway

8TH ANNUAL JEGS CAJUN SPORTSNATIONALS KICKS OFF AT NO PROBLEM

BELLE ROSE, La. (March 18, 2011) – No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose, La., came to life today with the kick off of the 8th Annual JEGS Cajun SPORTSnationals. The NHRA national event, exclusively for racers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, plays host to more than 500 race cars chasing championship points, more than $400,000 in cash and contingency awards, the coveted NHRA Wally trophy and a shot at the JEGS Crown.

Along with opening day qualifying and time trials, racers in Stock and Super Stock ran eliminations in class competition lead by local racer Jeff Teuton, Houma, La., who won the H/SA (H-stock automatic) class while qualifying No. 1 in his ’09 Challenger on top of the 97-car strong Stock Eliminator field. Jeff was joined in the Stock Class winner’s circle by his son Joseph who took the trophy in AA/SA.

Jerry Silveus took the honors in qualifying on top of Super Stock out of Van Buren, Ohio, in his ‘05 Cavalier. He is followed by a pair of Ford Mustangs in Gary Summers, Franklin, Ky., and Gary Richards, Bay Shore, N.Y., in his 2010 Mustang.

Linden, Tenn., resident Lee Adkins sits atop of the Comp Eliminator field running 6.249 seconds in his ’68 Camaro with Larry Pritchett, Clarkrange, Tenn., sitting in the No. 2 spot.

Three time JEGS Cajun SPORTSnationals champion Keith Raftery, Lake Charles, La., is third after two qualifying runs in the Suburban Chevrolet Top Sportsman class. Earl Folse, Raceland, La., is second led by Jerry Holt in the No. 1 spot. Holt, Collinsville, Okla., went 220.26 mph in 6.347 seconds in his ’08 GTO.

The Comp Cams TCI Top Dragster contingent saw the quickest field in NHRA South Central division history with Michael Kile, Westlake, La., leading the way in his ’09 dragster at 6.450 seconds at 215.79 mph. Phil Unruh is second out of McPherson, Kan., with Shawn LeBue rounding out the 32-car field with a 6.779 second lap at 204.14 mph.

Rounding out qualifying was Jacob Verscla, Kewanee, Ill., in the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson on his ’78 Kawasaki with a near perfect reaction time of 0.002 seconds.

Racing continues Saturday and Sunday at No Problem Raceway. Gates open at 8 a.m. each day with racing scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday’s action will see final qualifying in Comp Eliminator, Top Sportsman and Top Dragster along with a slue of specialty race activities.
