BROWNSBURG, Ind. (April 3, 2012) – Tickets for the world’s most prestigious drag race, the 58th annual Mac Tools U. S. Nationals, are currently on sale and the excitement level for this tradition-rich event builds with each new day. This year the event will run Aug. 29-Sept. 3 at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis and will showcase all four classes in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series including Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle.
Tickets range from $10 to $61 and can be purchased by visiting NHRATix.com or by calling (800) 884-6472. Those purchasing tickets in advance will have an advantage over those waiting until the race as advance ticket purchases will be lower in price than those purchased the day of the races. Also, purchasing your ticket in advance will secure you a premium seat.
A drag racer’s career isn’t complete without a Mac Tools U. S. Nationals title on their racing resume. Championships, national records and other event wins all ring hollow without a win at the ‘Big Go’ held annually over Labor Day weekend. Past winners of this world-renowned event reads like a who’s who of racing elite. Don Prudhomme, Don Garlits, Shirley Muldowney, Warren Johnson and Ed McCulloch all won at this historic facility. Pro Stock legend Bob Glidden has the most wins in the history of the event with nine and Top Fuel drivers Garlits and Tony Schumacher sit just one victory behind him. Schumacher is a true historian of the sport and would like nothing more than to have his name next to Glidden in the record books.
This year’s event will have added pressure as it is the last race of the regular season prior to the start of the Full Throttle Countdown to the Championship, the playoff system that decides the 2012 champions in all four classes. The Mac Tools U. S. Nationals doesn’t award any extra points, but a win here can give a team an extra shot of confidence going into the stretch run of the season.
New for the 2012 Mac Tools U. S. Nationals is the introduction of the NHRA Traxxas Nitro Shootouts, special 'races-within-a-race' that will feature competition among eight racers in both the Funny Car and Top Fuel ranks. These best of the best races in both nitro categories will pit the top Funny Car racers as they battle for $100,000 on Aug. 1st. The elite racers in the Top Fuel class will race for $100,000 on Sunday.
Each NHRA event is extremely fan friendly. Every ticket for the Mac Tools U. S. Nationals is a ‘pit pass’ that allows fans access to all of their favorite drivers. Fans aren’t allowed on the sidelines of a football game or in the dugout of a baseball game, but they are granted this level of access at the Mac Tools U. S. Nationals.
