Quick 32 Sportsman Series drag racing opener

ELMA, NEW YORK (April 23, 2012) – The Pontiac GTO Top Sportsman car of Bob Bauer Jr will not only be sporting a new look this year, the car will be powered with a new and larger engine in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts for 2012.

The driver of the Bauer Racing GTO said along with a new paint scheme for his car and the team's Junior Dragster driven by son Robert Bauer III, a 738-cubic inch engine is being fitted into the Torrelli Pro Cars chassis.

The Quick 32 Sportsman Series is getting quicker and quicker, and we wanted to qualify better in the fields this year, he noted. This engine will have nitrous. I would like to qualify without the nitrous, but if I need it I have got it.

The team placed eighth in the Championship Point Award Series in 2011, and the season was highlighted with an event win over the Top Dragster of Billy White in the final at the Nitro Nationals at Cayuga.

And while the team qualified for each of the six events last year, Bauer said the new engine should allow them to qualify higher for the races.

The engine has been freshened up by Mike Janis of Jan-Cen Racing Engines and features a Speedtech nitrous system with a pair of Bob Book Split Dominator carburetors. An R&R Racing two-speed Powerglide transmits the power with a BDR torque converter.

Bauer said the engine is just about assembled and ready for testing.

We have got the motor almost together, and then we will get it dynoed.

Mike Mitchell is crew chief for the team. Michelle Bauer and son Robert comprise the rest of the crew. Bauer has raced for over 20 years now, and will be entering his second season of Quick 32 Sportsman Series competition. Sponsors for the effort include Galaxy Auto Place Inc, Jan-Cen Racing Engines, R&R Racing Transmissions and BDR Torque Converters. The team plans on racing in the full Quick 32 Sportsman Series for 2012, and Bauer was quick to point out without his crew and sponsors it would not be possible.

We will be ready for the first race, he said. We have a good set-up and good people helping out.

The Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts kicks off its 2012 season with the Victoria Day Weekend Challenge May 18-20 at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park, the first of six events.

The Quick 32 Sportsman Series, www.Quick32.ca will race six times in 2012. The series also competes with its two companion series, the Pro Modified Racing Association, www.PMRA.ca and the Pro Bike & Sled Series, www.PBSS.ca offering a solid and full package of drag racing action.
