NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Final Results from Texas Motorplex

BARTONE TAKES HOME THIRD WIN THIS SEASON AT TEXAS MOTORPLEX

Ennis, Texas. (April 18, 2011) – Tony Bartone won his third event of the season this past weekend at the South Central division NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Texas Motorplex in Top Alcohol Funny Car.

Bartone, Long Island City, N.Y., started off the weekend in the number one spot in his ’09 Mustang and met Steve Burck, Corpus Christi, Texas, in the final round where he ran 5.589 seconds at 261.78 mph to defeat the Texas resident. Already off to a good start this season, he has prior wins at the Winternationals in Pomona, Calif., and at the Vegas Nationals in Las Vegas, earlier this month.

In Top Alcohol Dragster, Forrest Fair, Haughton, La., earned his first win of the season after a runner-up finish in Houston last month. Fair faced off against James Thompson, Vernon, Texas, in the finals and ran 5.489 seconds at 256.41 mph. Keith Hall came to Texas Motorplex with a win under his belt at Royal Purple Raceway in Comp Eliminator. The Texas resident from Ravenna drove his ’05 Cavalier against Adam White, Houston, and his dragster. In a close finish, Hall pulled off the win with an 8.470 second, 161.11 mph run.

Jeff Lopez came back to the Texas Motorplex to win for the second year in a row at this event in Super Gas. The Bedford, Texas, resident drove his ’63 Corvette to a win over Chris Burrell, Claude, Texas, with a run at 9.917 seconds, 153.67 mph.

Driving his ’56 Nomad, Randall Klein, Lincoln, Neb., earned a victory in Super Stock. He faced off against the 2010 Super Comp National Champion, Gary Stinnett, Emporia, Kan., in the final round where he ultimately earned his win. Jimmy Hidalgo Jr., Donaldsonville, La., defeated Sweeny, Texas, resident Steven Hall in Stock Eliminator for his trip to the Winner’s Circle in his ’02 Firebird. Hildago’s run at 10.622 seconds and 120.48 mph was closely followed by Hall’s run at 10.674 seconds at 118.08 mph.

In Super Street, there was a battle of the Camaro’s in the final. Craig Pfanenstiel, Hays, Kan., ran his ’67 Camaro against Jason Owens, White Oak, Texas, and his ’68 Camaro. Pfanenstiel ended up earning his first win of the season with a pass of 10.904 seconds at 142.79 mph.

The Suburban Chevrolet Top Sportsman class saw another out of state driver defeat a Texas resident. Monte Green, Haxtun, Colo., drove to victory at 6.988 seconds and 197.25 mph over Todd Stewart, Kilgore, Texas. The rest of the classes, on the other hand, brought home victories for Texan residents. In Super Comp, Joel Covington, Center, Texas, defeated Joseph Collier, Hamlin, Texas, in the finals with a run of 8.929 seconds at 173.32 mph. Jimmy Lewis, Forney, Texas, earned a win in TCI Comp Cams Top Dragster after a victorious run for 6.783 seconds at 185.05 mph against Nick Brener, Abita Springs, La., in the last round. Driving from Lucas, Texas, Lisa Bennett earned the win in Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson when she faced off against Derek Dorey, Kingswood, Texas.

South Central Division racers head to No Problem Raceway for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, May 27-29.
