OWEN SOUND, ONTARIO (February 4, 2011) – With a new car, Quick 32 Sportsman Series competitor Dave Keeling said he is looking forward to the upcoming season.
"We've got a brand spanking new car," mentioned Keeling about his Jerry Bickel Race Cars 1968 Camaro Top Sportsman entry. "And we're getting anxious to get out and race."
Keeling has assembled a new car based around the 762-cubic inch big-block engine from the shops of ERD (Engine Research & Development).
The new Camaro body is from Cynergy Composites, one of the top names in doorslammer car bodies. The Keeling Camaro is one of Cynergy's state-of-the-art ultra light bodies, weighing in at 41 pounds.
Sitting behind the nitrous-fed engine is a Coan Engineering Mega Glide two-speed transmission, which Keeling believes will help him down the track this year.
"The Coan is a little tougher than what we had previously," he said. "The car may be a little overbuilt, but we don't want any problems this year."
Crew chief for the team is Dave's wife Carolyn. Sponsorship for the team includes W.D. Keeling Printers Ltd, and special thanks go out to ERD's Carl Spiering.
Keeling said the car is almost ready for opening day in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts.
"We're planning on running the whole series," he mentioned. "We're in the midst of upgrading the computer right now, but we'll be ready."
