5th Generation Camaro Shootout to debut at all 12 Super Chevy Show events in 2011

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Feb. 4, 2011) -- The Super Chevy Show is recognizing a new generation of Chevy owners with the debut of a new racing class at each of its 12 national events this season.

The 5th Generation Camaro Shootout will be part of the national touring series beginning in 2011.

The class is open to Camaros 2010 and newer and will be a trophy class, with the winner, runner-up and semifinalists all receiving trophies. The winner will also receive a coveted Super Chevy Show "Winner's" jacket.

"I feel it is very important for SCS to involve the 5th Generation Camaro owners," said Guillermo Garcia of Camaro5.com, which is one of the largest Camaro enthusiast websites and forums on the Internet. "We are a very enthusiastic and proud group and we love to show and race our cars (at the track) every chance we get.

"Having the 5th Generation Camaro Shootout is a great idea that will generate more traffic to the Super Chevy Show series from not only the car owners themselves, but also from others who haven't had a chance to see one on the track."

Time trials for the 5th Generation Camaro Shootout will be on Saturday of each event weekend, with eliminations on Sunday. Entrants for the class will also be able to take part in the Friday Test-N-Tune, and compete in the bonus bracket race on Saturdays. Both will be available at an additional fee.

General Motors introduced the new Camaro body style for the car's 2010 model and was first available for consumers beginning in mid-2009. A recent report indicated that as of this past December, there were more than 140,000 of the 5th Generation Camaros already on the street.

Those numbers make perfect sense to Garcia, who sees the passion of the owners on the Camaro5 forums.

"I think it's great that Chevy came out with the new Camaro," Garcia said. "It has not only revitalized the Chevy Camaro faithful, but it has also had a huge impact not only in the aftermarket industry, but also in the entertainment industry.

"Just look at the "Transformers" movies. Who would have thought that seeing a car on the big screen would have everyone cheering?"

The Super Chevy Show and the 5th Generation Camaro Shootout will make it's debut on Friday, April 8-Sunday, April 10 at Palm Beach International Raceway in Jupiter, Fla.
