KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Oct. 28) -- The Super Chevy Show, which celebrated its 30th anniversary this past season, enjoyed tremendous growth under new ownership group of SCSW, LLC. in 2010 and more of the same is expected in 2011. That will not only be with the national touring series' schedule, which increases from 10 races to 12, including stops at four new tracks, but also with the SCSW Executive Committee, which grows from three members in 2010 to five in 2011.
The new, bigger board will be led by Lex Dudas, vice president and general manager of Maple Grove Raceway near Reading, Pa. Dudas was elected SCSW Executive Committee president this week, along with fellow board members John Bandimere Jr., owner of Bandimere Speedway near Denver, Colo and SCSW president in 2010, vice presidents Charles Allen, owner of Firebird International Raceway near Phoenix, and Seth Angel, general manager at Royal Purple Raceway at Houston, and secretary/treasurer Billy Meyer, owner of Texas Motorplex near Dallas. The SCSW Executive Committee, which was voted on by all 12 Super Chevy Show track owners and operators, will begin their new positions beginning, Monday, Nov. 1.
The Super Chevy Show 2011 season, which adds stops in Jupiter, Fla, Rockingham, N.C., Spokane, Wash. and Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, begins April 8-10 at Palm Beach International Raceway in Jupiter, Fla. "I'm humbled that the ownership group has appointed me president and I will do my best for the entire ownership group and for the overall success of all Super Chevy Shows on the 2011 schedule," Dudas said. "The addition of two more board members is a positive move and one I totally support. Having Charlie Allen and Seth Angel join the board gives us more input from two very successful track owners."
Allowing outgoing president Bandimere to remain on the board is also expected to be a very positive impact. Bandimere is one of the most-experienced track owners in motorsports, and will provide tremendous input, both as a past president and track operator.
"When our group purchased the Super Chevy Show last November we all knew that it would be a miracle to pull all the pieces together and make 10 events work," Bandimere said. "I'm not sure how I ended up president for the first year, but I enjoyed the involvement as well as the continuity we have developed. It's one of the highlights of my 50-year history in the drag racing business.
"The constant communication with track operators that I knew by name and maybe saw once a year, have become friends and partners in this experience and the best is yet to come. Lex Dudas has proved to be invaluable to our group and is the right choice for president at this time. Having Charlie Allen and Seth Angel come on the executive committee as (vice presidents) will make it much easier to have votes that encompass the thinking of our entire group. Five minds will be helpful in making the important decisions that will face us and gives us more stability. Honestly, all of us are in a position to share and make decisions and I feel just as important to the team as a (vice president) as being president. I'm looking forward to a great year."
All agree that the expanding of the board will be a key factor as the Super Chevy Show continues to grow. Allen believes it just made sense, especially with the series broadening its base to 12 events and at four new tracks in 2011.
"I am very excited to be on the board," Allen said. "There are great things in store for the Super Chevy Show series in the years to come and I am happy to help in its direction.
"I believe that the board needed to be larger so that when a board member misses a meeting it is more than two making a decision. It is great that Seth is now on the board as well. He has great ideas."
