NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Final Results from S.R.C.A. Dragstrip, Great Bend, Kan.

WHITELEY AND WILLIAMS TAKE THE WALLY AT SEASON OPENER

GREAT BEND, Kan. (April 26, 2010) – In the final results from SRCA Dragstrip and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Jim Whiteley, Grand Junction, Colo., and Kirk Williams, Glenwood, Iowa, took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively.

Whiteley worked his way through the field and ran 5.444 seconds at 258.52 mph in his final round victory over Edwin Schmeeckle, Gothenburg, Neb., who clocked in at 5.659 seconds, 249.21 mph.

Williams faced off against Lance Van Hauen, Reinbeck, Iowa, and posted a winning run of 5.801 seconds, 246.39 mph in his ’02 Camaro. Van Hauen drove to a 5.881 second, 239.74 mph lap for his runner up finish.

Several home state racers advanced to the final rounds with Phil Unruh of McPherson, Kan., taking the win over Larry Piper, Wamego, Kan., in the division’s Top Dragster class and Steve Domingues, Derby, Kan., took out Craig Pfanenstiel, Hays, Kan., in the final of Super Street.

Other racers visiting the winner’s circle this weekend were Matt Harris, Nebraska City, Neb., in Comp Eliminator; Brad Haugaard, North Branch, Minn., in Super Stock; Brad Burton, Golden, Colo., in Stock Eliminator: Landon Stallbaumer, Wakarusa, Kan., in Super Comp; and Michael Miller, Santa Fe, Minn., in Super Gas. In the division’s Top Sportsman class it was Doug Woody, Independence, Mo., taking the win and Curtis Spracklin, Omaha, Neb., took the win in the Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson.

West Central Division racers head to Brainerd International Raceway for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, May 28-30, 2010.
