Goodguys Racing '69 Camaro runs Career Best Numbers at Season Opener!

Sacramento Raceway, Sacramento, CA - The Goodguys Racing Pro Mod ’69 Camaro hit the track for the first time this season over the weekend at Sacramento Raceway Park competition during the 29th annual Funny Car Fever event. Racing in the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod category, driver Marc Meadors instantly felt the performance gains from a brand new combination, unloading a career best 6.19 @ 237mph off the trailer!

The Camaro’s new motor combo (installed over the winter to include “Brad 6” hemi cylinder heads, a Mike Stawicki Racing Performance 60mm camshaft, MSR hand fabricated sheet metal intake manifold and Red Line synthetic motor oil) gave the Goodguys Racing team the additional horsepower to play with.  Competing with a 451-inch Brad Anderson hemi with a roots blower has always differentiated the Goodguys Camaro as the bulk of the other competitors in the WCOPM group run 526-inch hemi‘s with screw-type blowers.

The car got quicker and faster during the weekend, ultimately qualifying with a 6.16 @ 236 lap, good for the number three qualifying position. After a first round win of 6.16 @ a whopping 240mph over Jay Diedrich, the big silver Camaro caught some misfortune logging a 6.744 @ 170.71 in a semi-final race against Rod Burbage. “We threw an air line off the transmission and it came out of gear,” a disgusted Meadors said. “We had Burbage covered by a few lengths when it broke. He ran great, not sure if we would have beaten him but we had a big advantage to half track and that’s what hurts.”

The car was also launching off the line better than ever before with consistent .996 60-foot times thanks to a new set of Hoosier tires and a rear suspension set up by Bob Bunker Jr at Bunker Race Cars in Sacramento.  Crewmembers Jason Bunker, Jeff Accacian, Billy Fereira and Andy Fereira once again worked tirelessly to insure the car was safe and smooth each lap down the track.

Next up for the Goodguys Racing ’69 Camaro is the “Nitro Night of Fire” at Sacramento Raceway, June 11th & 12th.
