Drag Racing 1:18 News

The '65 Plymouth Altered Wheelbase cars are some of the most remembered cars in drag racing history. Supercar Collectibles will be doing some of these in 1:18 scale die cast, including the original White test mule car, Butch Leal's California Flash, the very first Sox & Martin Mopar, and the Melrose Missile - all as carburated cars. The first 4 cars are to be as they were first raced with the cross ram 426 Hemi's, and only the Melrose Missile having a parachute (as Cecil said he always ran one). The 5th car is the Lee Smith car, being made as a "later in the season" car with the fuel injection, just as the car is restored today. The injected Smith car pictured below, was the actual car that was photographed and measured for this 1:18 scale project.

The 1:18 scale versions will have wired/plumbed 426 Hemi's under the lift off hood, opening doors with side windows, single seat race interior with full roll bar, plus a battery in the opening trunk. Underneath the K-member is moved forward, they have real metal leaf springs, plus a rotating driveshaft. Very detailed, yet we're not sure of the gear ratio... LOL. The first 3 cars (Mule-Leal-Sox&Martin) should be available in July, then the other 2 (Melrose-Smith) in August. These were just announced in middle February and over half of the limited production run is already spoken for. Waiting until they arrive may be too late to get one, so contact Supercar Collectibles at 763/425-6020 or sales@Supercar1.com
