The VisitRichmondCounty.com Super Chevy Show runs the entire weekend of October 21-23, 2011 at Steve Earwood’s Rockingham Dragway. The event is part Woodstock, part high-octane thrill and it’s all about those who worship at the Altar of Chevrolet. The weekend will include non-stop drag racing action among 300 plus competitors, a car show featuring an additional 500 plus cars, a swap meet, live music, food and attractions just for kids. Thousands of dollars are up for grabs in the bracket racing divisions and bragging rights will be bestowed on the car show award winners. All in all, it’s a non-stop, family-fun outing held in a car-crazy atmosphere.

The Super Chevy Show franchise is one of the most recognizable brands in the automotive aftermarket industry. With only 12 prestigious events per year, Rockingham Dragway has achieved elite status by wrangling a coveted date in 2011. “The Super Chevy Show is something I’ve wanted to attract to Rockingham [Dragway] for awhile,” said Steve Earwood, owner since 1992. “I think it has the potential to be one of the largest—if not the largest crowd we’ve ever had here,” he added. The significance of this event is what attracted the Richmond County Tourism Development Authority to get behind the effort, quickly signing on as the presenting sponsor of the weekend and officially crowning the event the VisitRichmondCounty.com Super Chevy Show.

The weekend officially gets underway Friday morning, with the spectator and competitor gates opening at 9:00 a.m. The Test n’ Tune session runs from noon to 7:00 p.m. On Saturday morning, the gates open at 8:00 a.m. Time trials begin at 10:00 a.m., with eliminations beginning at 2:00 p.m. On Sunday--the final day, gates open at 8:00 a.m. and time trials begin at 10:00 a.m. with eliminations to follow. Spectator entry fees are $35 for an all-weekend pass or $20 per day. Children are admitted for $10 and there is a $5 fee to attend the swap meet.

Special features during the weekend include an appearance by a 200-mph Jet Truck, Blown Pro-Mods, Pro ET, Street ET and DOT drag class divisions for bracket racing events. In addition, spectators will have easy access to one of the nation’s finest performance and restoration vendor areas throughout the weekend. With over 90 scheduled events per year, the Rockingham Dragway more than lives up to its “Hardest Working Drag Strip in the Southeast” moniker. The VisitRichmondCounty.com Super Chevy Show is sure to add another exciting chapter to a storied history at Rockingham Dragway that dates back over 40 years.
