HUGE PAYDAY UP FOR GRABS AT SUMMIT SPORTSMAN SPECTACULAR


Virginia Motorsports Park hosts $5,000 to win, last chance TOC qualifier Oct. 14-15

NORWALK, Ohio (October 5, 2011) – The IHRA racing season may be winding down, but the action on the track is just about to heat up.

With over $200,000 up for grabs over the course of the three-day IHRA Summit Racing Equipment World Finals presented by RacingJunk.com weekend at Virginia Motorsports Park next weekend, the action on the track is sure to be among the most intense of the season.

And kicking off the huge weekend will be the last regular season race of 2011 as the International Hot Rod Association and Summit Racing Equipment host the $5,000 to win, last chance Tournament of Champions qualifier known as the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Spectacular October 14-15 at VMP.

The Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Spectacular is a special race open to all racers with a valid IHRA or NHRA license. Racing will be contested in Top Sportsman, Top Dragster, Super Stock, Stock, Quick Rod, Super Rod and Hot Rod with $5,000 going to the winner. As an added bonus, IHRA members that win the Sportsman Spectacular will automatically qualify for the Summit Racing Equipment Tournament of Champions later that weekend for a shot at $10,000 and the title of IHRA World Champion.



"The Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Spectacular is an event designed by the racers for the racers. The rules for the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Spectacular are simple. For just $200 any driver with a valid IHRA or NHRA license can compete for a guaranteed $5,000 to win in each of the seven IHRA classes. Winners will take home a huge payday plus earn entry into the Tournament of Champions later that weekend if the driver does not lose in the first round.

The Summit Sportsman Spectacular will feature a re-entry round after the first round of eliminations where first round losers can attempt to race their way back into the field. Any driver that re-enters the race and goes on to win the overall event will still earn the $5,000 payday, but will not be eligible for the Tournament of Champions. Drivers must also hold a valid IHRA license prior to the start of the race to qualify for the TOC as well.

The huge weekend will kick off on Thursday, October 13 with a test and tune at Virginia Motorsports Park from 3-8 p.m. Racing will continue on Friday, October 14 with time trials and the first round of eliminations for the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Spectacular plus the re-entry round. The Summit Sportsman Spectacular will conclude on Saturday, October 15 with winners banking $5,000 and IHRA members filling the final few spots in the TOC.

Immediately following the completion of the last-chance TOC qualifier, time runs for the Summit Racing Equipment Tournament of Champions and Summit SuperSeries will take place Saturday evening.

The completion of the event and the crowning of champions will take place on Sunday, October 16.
