AUTOCROSS IS A BIG PART OF PHOENIX SUPER CHEVY SHOW

Firebird Raceway to Host Season Finale October 28-30, 2011

CHANDLER, Ariz. (Oct. 24, 2011) – Total Cost Involved, Wilwood Disc Brakes and Currie Enterprises will continue to be heavily involved in the Super Chevy Show series presented by GM Performance Division as they sponsor the autocross event this weekend at Phoenix Firebird Raceway near Phoenix. This event will be the fourth Super Chevy Show to feature autocross, and the final show for the 2011 season tour.

Autocross is a single car, timed course competition where drivers use mainly skill in the handling of the car instead of speed to maneuver a vehicle around a road course lined by traffic cones.

The autocross festivities are open to amateur and professional participants in a Chevy-bodied or Chevy-powered vehicle. There will be several categories for autocross participants of different levels to enter including a ladies category, novice and pro class.

Winners will receive plaques for each category at the end of both Saturday and Sunday.

“At our 2010 Super Chevy event we had great interest and response regarding our autocross set up. For this years’ event we will be using the same area and basic layout for the course, but will be stepping up the professionalism by using the local region of ASA sports car racing to help us design, set up, and run the course for both days. They will be using a computerized timing system which will give the drivers the option of receiving an actual printout of every run they make.  We will be handing out awards each day for the fastest time around the course in three different categories: Novice, expert and fastest female driver,” said Chuck Sundstrom, director of operations at Firebird International Raceway.

  • Autocross – One of the hottest attractions for the Super Chevy Shows in the U.S.  Many 1960’s muscle cars will face off again current production Camaros, Vettes and other bowtie models to see who will take home the prized awards each day.  The autocross course, sponsored by Total Cost Involved, Wilwood Disc Brakes and Currie Enterprises is open Saturday and Sunday, 1030a.m.– 3:30p.m.

  • Vendor Midway – The vendor midway will be full of national vendors surrounding the Car Show area with display units providing all of the latest original equipment and aftermarket performance and restoration parts for all Chevrolet cars and trucks. The midway will include some of the latest from presenting sponsor GM Performance Division, to Duracell, Speedway Motors and others.
“From a drag race standpoint, our racers can expect great track and weather conditions. We have put a lot of work into our quarter mile racing surface in the past year, and our recent events have shown it.  At our last event, the NHRA Arizona Nationals, we saw some fabulous side by side drag racing action even with record high air and track temps. All of our sportsman racers that will be attending the event can expect to experience this same kind of great racing action!” added Sundstrom.
