02/24/2010 Anaheim, CA. Even with bad weather shortening testing, the High Speed Motorsports team and their new driver, Brad Thompson, are ready to win their first March Meet. The talent runs deep in this camp as the HSMS team was the 2008 NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series Top Fuel Champions and Thompson, in his own car, was the 2007 champ.
Thompson, who was looking at having to park his car for at least part of the 2010 season, jumped at the chance to take over the seat of the potent HSMS fueler after Troy Green announced he was pursuing other ventures. Said Thompson, "Running one of these cars is more than a little expensive and I simply did not have the resources to race how I wanted. This team has the backing and equipment to repeat as champions and I'm proud to be part of it."
Crew Chief Brett Johansen is chomping at the bit to get the season under way. "We had some bumps in the road last year but we feel they are behind us now. Over the winter the car went to Dyda Race Eng. for a new body that is 18 pounds lighter than the old one. We've restocked our arsenal of parts and pretty much kept our winning team in tact. Brad is an excellent driver so we see no learning curve either way. He'll be just fine."
According to Team Manager Tom Shelar, "Bringing Brad on board not only netted us an experienced driver but also expanded our support from SilverThin Bearings, and RMS Medical to include LG Bless and ProMotive. To me, that's a win win."
The 52nd March Meet will be contested at the Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield on 05/10 to 07/10. If you come out the team invites you to stop by their pit to meet Brad and pick up a cool handout. For more info visit the HSMS website. High Speed Motorsports
