Grand Bend Motorplex fosters strong alliance with PMRA, Quick 32 Sportsman Series

Track to host PMRA events for fifth season including IHRA Nitro Jam Nationals, Quick 32 Sportsman Series returns for sophomore year

GRAND BEND, ONTARIO (February 19, 2010) – When the Pro Modified Racing Association made its first trip to Ontario’s Grand Bend Motorplex over the Labor Day weekend in 2006, Paul Spriet, Chief of Operations for the racing facility, he was a little skeptical.
“We watched from the sidelines the initial season of PMRA racing (the series started in 2005) and observed how things turned out for their first year. We decided to give the PMRA a shot in 2006.
“And now we’re glad we did.”
With that initial PMRA race a success, Spriet said Grand Bend has had a good working relationship with the PMRA since that time, adding he is looking forward to continuing the relationship for the upcoming season.
“Grand Bend Motorplex is proud to include the PMRA and the Quick 32 Sportsman Series in our race program on a number of our big event weekends in 2010,” he said. “Both race series offer our fans a great show as well as showcasing some of the premier racing talent in our area.”
The PMRA has been a big part of Grand Bend’s “Thunder by the Beach” Labor Day weekend. The PMRA will also be a big part of this year’s Labor Day weekend, along with other dates at the track.
“We are enthusiastic about the return of the PMRA,” noted Spriet. “This has grown into a great series with a depth of talent and showmanship. Our fans can’t wait for their return.”
In 2009, the newly-formed Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts raced several times at the Grand Bend Motorplex, twice in conjunction with the PMRA, which gave the fans a terrific show.
“The Quick 32 Sportsman Series only enhances the PMRA in presenting a great, all-round show of drag racing,” said Spriet. “Both these series offer top-notch racing, and we’re pleased to have them on board.”
The PMRA will compete three times at Grand Bend, starting July 16-18 as part of the track’s IHRA MOPAR Nitro Jam Nationals, the track’s major meet of the season. The PMRA will also race during the popular Stratford Spectacular Hot August Nationals presented by Ideal Supply and NAPA Auto Parts August 6-8, and September 3-5 for the Teamsters “Thunder by the Beach.”
This will be the PMRA’s second year of involvement with the IHRA MOPAR National meet.
“The PMRA Pro Modifieds were a real crowd-pleaser last year,” noted Scooter Peaco, Vice President of Race Operations for the IHRA. “The teams put on a good show with a solid group of cars, and we are happy to have them return once again this year.”
The Quick 32 Sportsman Series will be at Grand Bend June 25-27 for the RPM Magazine Media/Family Weekend, August 6-8 for the Stratford Spectacular Hot August Nationals presented by Ideal Supply and NAPA Auto Parts, and the Teamsters “Thunder by the Beach” September 3-5.
