Portable Dynamometer added to Houston Super Chevy Show Manufacturers Midway

BAYTOWN, Texas (Aug. 27) - The Super Chevy Show, a national touring series that is celebrating its 30th anniversary this season, has been tabbed as a carnival of motorsports because it offers a little bit of everything for car enthusiasts.

Houston Raceway Park will add to the excitement when it hosts the eighth race of the season on Saturday, Sept. 11 and Sunday, Sept. 12.

The Houston Super Chevy Show presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts and Ron Craft Chevrolet, thanks to Pearland, Texas-based C.U.N.D.N. Racing, will offer use of a portable dynamometer to participants on both days.

“This is really an exciting addition to our upcoming Super Chevy Show event and I’m certain our loyal Chevy racers and participants will take advantage of this opportunity,” said Seth Angel, Houston Raceway Park general manager. “The Super Chevy Show Series offers a little something for everyone, whether it be the judged car show, the Bowtie Boulevard, racing, the swap meet, autocross, and now a portable dynamometer."

The dynamometer, which is one of several attractions for the two-day event, will be made available to race cars as well as participants who want to test their Chevy street machines. The portable device will not only measure the rear wheel horsepower and rear wheel torque, but will also record various engine parameters, including air fuel ratio of each participating vehicle. It was also produce a simulated quarter-mile printout.
C.U.N.D.N Racing, one of several of the growing list of vendors confirmed for the Manufacturers Midway, will set up the dynamometer in front of the midway for easy access on and off the dyno rollers. It's anticipated that each test will take approximately 20 minutes.

Other vendors confirmed for the Houston Super Chevy Show are O’Reilly Auto Parts, Ron Craft Chevrolet, Original Parts Group, GM Performance Division, Super Chevy Magazine, Featherlite Trailers, Royal Purple Synthetic Oil, Green Mountain Monogram, Minnesota Pneumatic, Jax Wax, Metro Moulded Parts, John’s Trim Shop and Arctic Cat.

The other draws for the two-day event will be three classes of sportsman racing; the always-popular car show, which now includes the new Bowtie Boulevard non-judged class, and a burnout contest; Revell's Make-N-Take modeling building program for kids and an autocross, which is scheduled from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday of the event. Bob Hall's Wheelstander will also make appearances on Saturday and Sunday.
The Bowtie Boulevard, formerly known as Show-N-Shine, provides Chevy car and truck owners the opportunity to display their automobiles in the show lot at each of the remaining events on the Super Chevy Show 30th Anniversary tour. The cost is $35 per entry, and will provide each driver the same access of a full event ticket at a $5 savings.

The Revell Make-N-Take program gives kids the opportunity to enjoy the thrill of their car enthusiasts parents by putting together snap-on car kits with help from expert model builders. The program will be held from noon-2 p.m. both days of the event in the newly constructed Tower Club.

Another big attraction to the weekend's activities will be a Chevy Street Cruise on Saturday morning of event weekend. The cruise will begin at 9 a.m. from Ron Craft Chevrolet in Baytown, and trek to Houston Raceway Park.

“While interest may vary in these aspects," Angel said, "we all have one common denominator - and that of course, is our love for the Chevy brand.”
