Denver Super Chevy Show Comes to an Exciting Finish

MORRISON, Colo (Aug. 22) - The Super Chevy Show offers a little bit of everything for everybody.
The national touring series, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary season, lived up to its billing on Sunday. The day produced both excitement and thrills in both the racing and car show classes on the final day of the Denver Super Chevy Show presented by Stevinson Chevrolet at Bandimere Speedway.

Bret Williamson, of Campbell, Calif., was the big winner on the track, winning the West Coast Outlaw Pro-Mod race. There were also winners in the Bracket 1, Bracket 2 and D.O.T. classes. The car show produced a strong field, with Steve Luethge, of Omaha, Neb, taking home the Best of Show Award to top the winners' list, which featured 80 winners among 37 categories.


Race Recap: Bret Williamson, of Campbell, Calif., highlighted the action on the quartermile, taking home the top prize in the West Coast Outlaw Pro-Mod eliminator. Williamson, who qualified on the pole on Saturday, followed it up with three round victories on Sunday, including making a 6.201-second pass at 234.37 mph to beat John Scialpi, of Phelan, Calif., in the final. Scialpi motored to a 6.523 at 175.32 mph. Other winners were Johnny Bates, of Hudson, Colo. in Bracket 1; Michael Brand II, of Thornton, Colo., in Bracket 2 and Rick Mann, of Littleton, Colo., in D.O.T class. Bates ran a 7.905 at 170.79 mph to beat Kris Whitfield, of Lakewood,Colo.; Brand used a 15.132 at 88.57 mph to defeat Rob Atwood, of Centennial, Colo., with Mann running a 11.571 at 118.50 to beat Dan Elliott, of Lakewood, Colo.


Car Show Recap: The Denver show produced 80 winners among 37 categories. Steve Luethge, of Omaha, Neb, topped the show with the Best of Show Award, winning with his 1956 Chevy. Mark Shields, of Longmont, Colo., received the Award of Excellence, with his '69 Camaro. Other winners from Sunday's show included Warren Joerg, of Randall, Kan., taking the Early Chevy Best of Class Award with his '36 Chevy Coupe, and Ben Bunker and Hank Hammer, both of Tipton, Kan., winning the Best Detail Gold Class award with their 1970 Chevelle. Saturday's Editor's Choice Top 10 Awards list was highlighted by Bob Valdez, of Denver, who won with his 1956 Chevy.
