Old School Nostalgia Nights
May 29th, 2010
Skyview Drags, Tioga Center, NY
Nostalgia drag racing made its debut at Skyview Dragway this Memorial Day weekend. Along with their usual bracket program they had over forty cars from the touring NETO nostalgia circuit and four funny cars that run with The Great Lake Nostalgia Funny Car Circuit.
The Neto cars provided a great heads up program with a lot of old style wheels up launches and unpredictable runs that come with the short wheelbase old style gassers.
The four nostalgia funny cars provided a good blend of early and late 70's style bodies. There was the Screamin Eagle 77 Trans Am, Total Insanity 77 Monza, Visionary 70 Cuda and The Boggs Brothers AMX.
First pair out was the Screaming Eagle Trans Am taking on the Visionary Cuda; both cars did great burnouts and a few old style dry hops. This was the Cuda's first outing with a Hemi; Scott had previously ran a BBC Chevrolet in the car. The Trans Am was out first and was the first to the finish line.
Second pair was The Total Insanity Monza taking on the Boggs Brother AMX. The Monza did a totally insane full track burnout, just like they did in the seventies. Both cars left hard with the Monza taking the win.

Second round pitted the first round losers together and the first round winners together.
The Visionary Cuda was up against The Boggs Brothers AMX. Both cars wowed the crowd with long Smokey burnouts and a few short dry hops. The Cuda was late off the line and that was all the small block AMX needed to get ahead of the big Hemi for the win.
Last pair out was the two quickest from the first round. The Screamin Eagle Trans Am came out with a flame show that would make you think he was blending a little Nitro in the tank.
The Monza was not intimidated as Chris pulled out a great reaction time and held on for the win. The Trans Am got out of shape and coasted over the finish line.
Chris Massarella in The Total Insanity Monza won the Reaction Time award that is sponsored by Good Vibrations. The GLNFCC would like to thank the great people at Skyview for letting us bring our traveling funny car show to their track and we look forward to going back to Skyview in the future.
Next stop Thompson Raceway Park on June 5th.
