Double events mark next Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts

AHRA Canadian Nitro Nationals scene of rounds three and four this weekend at TMP
CAYUGA, ONTARIO (June 29, 2010) – It will be double the action, double the points, and double the purse money this weekend as the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts will hold two complete events during the AHRA Canadian Nitro Nationals at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario.
Rounds three and four of the six-race 2010 Quick 32 Sportsman Series season will be held at the fabled Kohler Road track, featuring the best in Top Dragster and Top Sportsman racing.
And along with two complete races, the final rounds in the postponed Grand Bend Motorplex race will take place at Cayuga Friday, July 2. Both the Top Dragster final and the Top Sportsman final will be held, along with the traditional Top Dragster -versus- Top Sportsman match-up to determine the event champion.
The second race in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series was close to completion at the Grand Bend Motorplex last weekend, but rain delayed the finals.
Going into the Top Dragster final are two teams that have never been to victory lane. Scott Wildgust of Wartburg, Ontario, who formerly drove a Top Sportsman car in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, will be going up against Melanie Simmons of Orangeville, Ontario, who has produced some stout numbers so far this year with her new supercharged dragster. Wildgust qualified second for this event, with Simmons right behind in third.
On the Top Sportsman side, the 1955 Chevrolet of Steve Parkhurst of Belleville, Ontario is matched with reigning Quick 32 Sportsman Series champion Kevin Wicke of Stratford, Ontario and his 2006 Dodge Stratus. Wicke qualified number two for the 16-car Top Sportsman field, and Parkhurst nailed down the number three spot.
And like the Top Dragster racers, neither of these teams has been to the winner's circle in Quick 32 Sportsman Series competition.
While these four will do battle Friday evening, one of three qualifying sessions will also be held for the first full event of the weekend. Two more qualifiers will be held Saturday, starting at 11:00 am, with round one of eliminations scheduled to take place at 2:00 pm.
Starting at 10:30 am Sunday, July 4, round one of qualifying for the second complete Quick 32 Sportsman Series race will begin. There will be one more qualifying round before the dragsters and doorcars begin their second set of eliminations over the long weekend at 1:00 pm.
With an eye on providing a diversified and entertaining program of racing, Toronto Motorsports Park management will present competition in the sport's top classes, Top Fuel Dragster and Nitro Funny Car, PMRA Pro Modifieds as well as Jet Car action, and a round in the Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Series.
With close to 8000 horsepower on tap, cars in the Top Fuel Dragster and Nitro Funny Car divisions are the fastest-accelerating cars on the planet, and are rarely seen in Canada, but Toronto Motorsports Park will present some of the best in the sport, including those of former International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) champions Spencer Massey, Del Cox and Dale Creasy.
Canadians will be well-represented as Todd Paton and Fred Farndon will gear up and make their Top Fuel passes down the Cayuga quarter-mile.
The Canadian Nitro Nationals action gets underway Friday July 2 with a qualifying round in the PMRA and Quick 32 Sportsman Series, plus the first of several runs by the 300-mph Jet Dragsters of Black Ice and Terminator, starting at 8:00 pm.
Qualifying in both the PMRA and Quick 32 takes place Saturday morning and afternoon, and then the nitro cars take to the track in two sessions, at 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm.
Elimination rounds will be held for Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the third of four PMRA qualifiers will take place. Fans will then be treated to a fireworks display and live music on the TMP grounds.
The Top Fuel Dragsters return Sunday at 1:00 pm for more match-ups, and eliminations will take place in all classes throughout the day, with final rounds scheduled for 5:00 pm.
Ticket prices for this must-see event range from $20 on the Friday for an adult to $40 on the Saturday, $30 on Sunday with a weekend pass available for $80. Youth and children passes are also available, as well as weekend camping.
