Kansas City (Jan. 22, 2010) - To help celebrate the 30th anniversary of Super Chevy Show, the series ownership group, SCSW, Inc., has finalized the details of its new “Shoebox Shootout” class for 2010. The heads-up class is designed to attract sedans, coupes and convertibles built from 1934 to 1962.
“Our goal is to develop an exciting new heads-up class populated by nostalgia looking vehicles fans can relate to," Super Chevy Show series General Manager, Tom Kreager, said. "We think this will just add to the exciting anniversary season of the Super Chevy Show series. There is already a lot of excitement built for this new class."
Shoebox Shootout
(Cars must be NHRA/IHRA legal per their ET and MPH)
1. Must be Chevy Bodied or powered:
a. All cars must be self starting and water cooled
b. Tow vehicles are not allowed
2. Bodies:
a. Any body style (1935 – 1962): Sedans, Coupes, Convertibles, etc… No Corvettes, Corvairs, or Chevy powered T – Birds
b. Stock appearing with working doors and all window openings maintained
c. Minimum wheelbase is 90 inches but may be lengthen to 130 inches
d. Full suspension with working shocks
e. Driver must be offset to the left, no center steer cars
f. Aluminum or fiberglass body parts may be used
g. Nose (front of vehicle) must be kept stock appearing and not streamlined or tilted back
h. Older style “flat top” hood scoops allowed. Maximum height 12”. Modern scoops not allowed
i. Exposed carbs and intake permitted
j. Spoilers are permitted up to 14”. No air may pass under them and they must be attached to the rear deck lid. Spill plates are limited to a maximum of 6”
k. Wings and airfoils are not allowed
3. Engine:
a. No cubic inch limit
b. One engine per car
4. Power Adders:
a. Any number of carburetors
b. NOS or Blowers permitted
c. No Electronic Fuel Injection or Carburetors
5. Fuel:
a. Alcohol or Gasoline permitted. No Nitro Methane
6. Minimum Weight (including driver):
a. Big Block – 2900 lbs
b. Small Block – 2700 lbs
c. Add 200 lbs. for Nitrous or Blowers
7. Race Format (1/4 mile):
a. Qualifying: Quickest 16 cars (0 to 10.99)
b. Eliminations: Full Tree/Handicapped Start
c. Handicap Dial – within 0.20 of your quickest qualifying time
d. Lane Choice: Quickest pass from qualifying and then previous round
8. Purse ($4800 total)
a. $2000 to win; $1000 to runner – up; $500 semis; $100 to quarters; $50 to eighths
b. Special Trophy, Magazine coverage
c. Options: Frantic Four (4) on Saturday evening: heads – up, trophy to win, (minimal or no cash)
d. Non qualifiers may compete in Bracket 1
