AUTOCROSS WILL BE FEATURED AT SELECT SUPER CHEVY SHOW EVENTS IN 2010

The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will be first to host autocross

KANSAS CITY (Jan. 20, 2010) – Autocross drivers will have a new venue to show off their ability to maneuver cars through tight courses in 2010 – the Super Chevy Show. Select host tracks will feature an autocross event during the 30th anniversary season of the Super Chevy Show series.

Autocross will be just one more tantalizing feature of a series that offers drag racing, car shows, swap meets and collector cars for sale. Forward Sports Marketing's Ryan Haas has been charged with marketing and sponsorship for the series and said the idea to add autocross to the events was a collaborative effort between fans and the Super Chevy Magazine staff.

"Adding autocross to Super Chevy Show events was a great idea brought to us by the staff of Super Chevy Magazine," Haas said. "We have a great working relationship with the publisher and editors and they are providing valuable and inspiring input about how they want to see the Super Chevy Show series grow.

"The Super Chevy Magazine staff has incredible resources and has been able to collect input from readers, fans and advertisers. We couldn't be more pleased with the involvement we have from so many people on making the series even better."

So far, three of the 10 national events will feature an autocross event during the Super Chevy Show weekend: The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Heartland Park Topeka in Topeka, Kan., and Firebird Raceway in Chandler, Ariz.

"Autocrossing is growing wildly in popularity in the Chevy hobby and it's a natural to add it to the Super Chevy Show format," said Jim Campisano, editor of Super Chevy magazine. "More and more enthusiasts are modifying their cars for improved handling and the autocrosses at these events gives them a place to enjoy them in a fun, safe and exciting environment."

The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will be the first Super Chevy Show host facility to feature autocross when the 30th anniversary season of Super Chevy Show kicks off with the March 19-21 event.

"We've seen a tremendous increase in the interest of autocross events for a variety of groups here at Las Vegas Motor Speedway," said Chris Blair, Las Vegas Motor Speedway Vice President of Racing Operations. "We're seeing that more and more performance enthusiasts are interested in not only making a run down the quarter-mile track in their Corvette or Camaro, but also taking advantage of performance under extreme turning and braking conditions. There's more to these events than just a car show and drag race, now the Super Chevy show is offering something for even more Chevrolet fans."

Heartland Park Topeka moved its Super Chevy Show event to Father's Day weekend, June 18-20, and will be putting the entire facility to good use. HPT is widely regarded as one of the top multi-use facilities in the country and has plenty of room and experience to create a challenging autocross course. The national sanctioning body for autocross, the SCCA, is located within a mile of the track and hosts several autocross events at HPT.

"Heartland Park has an extensive road racing background, so it makes sense for us to host an autocross event during the Super Chevy Show weekend," Heartland Park's owner, Raymond Irwin, said. "Our fans love and support road racing throughout the year with various events. This will be the first time in about 10 years that our facility is hosting a Super Chevy Show event, so an autocross event is a dynamic and perfect addition to the weekend for HPT and its fans."

The Super Chevy Show season finale event will be held at Firebird International Raceway Oct. 22-24. Firebird is another multi-use facility that has a long-standing relationship with SCCA and road racing. Owner Charlie Allen said he was thrilled to be able to add another component to keep even more fans entertained during the Super Chevy Show weekend.

"I think adding an autocross element to an event that has already proven to be successful is very exciting," Allen said. "We love to have multiple events going on at the same time. We will hold boat events during a drag race just to expose fans to new events and I think this is going to be another positive addition to our Super Chevy Show weekend."
