Mickey Thompson Ten Grand Slam one of two big money shootouts at World Finals






 There is nothing quite like a good old fashioned shootout, especially in the highly competitive world of professional drag racing.

And fans of big money shootouts won’t have to look any farther than the World Finals in Rockingham, N.C. later this month as two door car shootouts will highlight four days of thrilling drag racing action capped off by the crowning of world champions October 22-25 at Rockingham Dragway.

One of the most exciting shootouts of the weekend will take place Saturday night during the “Night of Fire” portion of the evening as two of the top Pro Modified drivers in IHRA go head-to-head in a winner-takes-all $10,000 shootout in the Mickey Thompson Ten Grand Slam.

“Pro Modified racing had its beginnings in IHRA and for the past 19 years we have had the quickest and fastest quarter-mile competition in the sport,” said Tommy Dupree, IHRA Properties National Sales Manager. “We’re proud to be able to work with Mickey Thompson to bring this bonus program to the racers who have supported us for so many years.”

Points have accrued through the first nine races of the season for drivers featuring the Mickey Thompson decal on their car.

During the Friday night qualifying session at the World Finals the names of the top eight point earners will be dropped in a hat. A representative from Mickey Thompson will then draw two names and the lucky racers will have a chance to go head-to-head for $10,000. Participants must be present in Rockingham to be eligible.

Once decided the two drivers will be paired during qualifying and compete for the winner takes all pay day. If the winner is running Mickey Thompson tires on the rear of their car, there is an additional $2,500 bonus.

Drivers currently eligible for the Mickey Thompson Ten Grand Slam shootout include Kenny Lang, Ed Hoover, Chris Russo, Tony Pontieri, Ray Commisso, Harold Martin, Ike Maier and Andy Jensen.
