Swedish Pro Mod racer Flamholc joins loaded field at The Rock

Rockingham Dragway is known for attracting the best of the best when it comes to Pro Modified drag racing.

And that will remain true this weekend.

Many of the best Pro Mod teams in the country – and around the world – are at The Rock for the final race of the 2009 season this weekend at the IHRA World Finals at Rockingham Dragway.

Once again the International Hot Rod Association, the true home for Pro Modified racing, is playing host to a full contingent of the wild door car class as the class partakes in the final IHRA Pro Mod race under the current format.

The idea of taking home a win in the final “open” Pro Mod race in the sanctioning bodies’ history has become an intriguing concept and one that is not lost on the drivers.

In fact, that opportunity has attracted a few new drivers who have yet to participate in an IHRA race until this weekend including one who has traveled all the way from Sweeden to be a part of this weekend’s big race.

Swedish ace Adam Flamholc will wheel his ’67 Camaro this weekend at the World Finals and looks forward to the opportunity he has to make an impression.

“This is a dream come true for us just to be here and see all the pro teams with hired crews and big trailers, all the parts and knowledge they have,” Flamholc said. “I hope me and my crew can learn as much as possible and prepare for the FIA European Pro Mod series we will attend back home next year.”

Flamholc got his license in 1991 and began racing on a regular basis in the late 90s. Beginning in Comp Eliminator, Flamholc won two Nordic championships and one Swedish championship before moving up to an outlaw series in the early 2000s.

With plenty of experience and a burning desire to race with top teams, Flamholc purchased a Pro Stock car and participated in a number of races with the FIA European Series before traveling to the States in 2007 with plans of running a few NHRA Pro Stock events.

Despite not qualifying, Flamholc became the first European team to run a 6.6 time and walked away with the experience needed to finally move up to Pro Modified.

Flamholc purchased Taylor Lastor’s Camaro at the beginning of the year and began racing in the Scandinavian Pro Mod/Top Doorslammer series, finishing second in the points.

Now Flamholc brings his operation back to the U.S. with plans of making a dent in yet another internationally recognized drag racing series.

“When I bought my first Pro Mod car I bought the engine from Taylor and Texas Racing Engines and since then we have talked on a weekly basis. When his car finally came up for sale I knew I had to work out a deal,” Flamholc said. “Since we bought the car turn key over here and Taylor agreed to let us race from his trailer we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to race against the best this weekend.”

Flamholc will put his skills to the test against some of the top teams in the sport this weekend at the IHRA World Finals at Rockingham Dragway.
