HESS LEADS SPORTSMAN WINNERS AT VIRGINIA MOTORSPORTS PARK

GLENDORA, Calif. (Oct. 13, 2009) – NHRA Super Stock racer Bucky Hess scored his first national event win at the NHRA Virginia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park in Richmond. Hess was joined in the winner’s circle by Brad Zaskowski, James Antonette, and Mike Ruff.

Hess, a resident of Bunker Hill, W.V., wheeled his ’68 Barracuda to the win over Jessup, Ga.’s Grant Lewis who was driving his ’05 Grand Am. Zaskowski now has a national event win in Stock Eliminator to go along with the three he has earned in Super Stock. The Belmont, Mich., racer knocked out Gene Jordan of Reidsville, S.C., in the final round. Zaskowski was driving a ’94 Camaro and Jordan wheeled a ’69 Camaro. Antonette, a resident of Valley Stream, N.Y., ousted Tom Seeman of Little Falls, N.Y., in the Super Comp final to earn his first NHRA national event win and Ruff, Orlando, Fla., was behind the wheel of his ’67 Camaro Super Gasser when he beat out Greg Slack, Albemarle, N.C., in a ’70 Maverick in the final. The win marked Ruff’s third trip to a national event winner’s circle.

NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competitors have three more divisional races and two national events at which they may earn points toward divisional and national titles.

Top Alcohol Funny Car ace Frank Manzo wrapped up his 13th national championship earlier this year and will be joined on stage by Comp Eliminator national champion Bruno Massel. The crowns in Top Alcohol Dragster, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp and Super Gas are still up for grabs.
