IHRA dominates North Carolina media






From Greensboro down to Charlotte and everywhere in between the International Hot Rod Association is abuzz throughout the Carolinas as the IHRA World Finals roll into Rockingham, N.C. this weekend for the final race of the 2009 season Oct. 23-25 at Rockingham Dragway.

IHRA has been featured in print and on the air as a trio of IHRA drivers took part in a week long media tour throughout North Carolina to discuss this weekend’s season finale at The Rock.

IHRA sportsman drivers and Tournament of Champions participants Gary and Lisa Bingham of Kings Mountain, N.C. spent the middle portion of the week touring the Charlotte area with appearances on the John Boy and Billy Show, Got Game on WCCB Fox and Sports Night on News 14.

The father-daughter pair, who qualified for the inaugural Tournament of Champions with national event wins coming in the same weekend one month ago, were also featured on WBTV CBS and WCNC NBC in Charlotte.

Top Fuel driver Bruce Litton also took part in the week long media tour with stops in the Greensboro area on Thursday. Litton will try to overtake point leader Del Cox Jr. this weekend in the Top Fuel finale.

A number of other drivers have also been featured in print and on the radio in advance of the IHRA World Finals this weekend including stories in USA Today, the Charlotte Observer, Fayetteville Observer and the Richmond County Daily Journal.

Racing has already begun at Rockingham Dragway with time trials for the Champion System Sportsman Nationals presented by VP beginning on Thursday.

Time trials for the professional categories and Tournament of Champions participants, along with the final rounds of the Sportsman Nationals, will begin on Friday. Saturday’s action will begin with sportsman runs in the morning, professional qualifying at 3 p.m. and the “Night of Fire” at 6 p.m.

Final eliminations will begin Sunday at 11 a.m.
