“We couldn’t be happier about hosting the Midwest Nationals event in September,” said Curtis Francois, retired race car driver, real estate developer, and owner of Gateway Motorsports Park. “We look forward to a long, exciting, and prosperous partnership with the NHRA."

The event will feature all four Professional categories: Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycle.

“We are excited to return to the St. Louis area, as we have a very strong fan base in the region, and they have always supported NHRA Drag Racing,” said NHRA President Tom Compton.

Gateway Motorsports Park is a 150-acre facility located at 700 Raceway Blvd. about five minutes east of downtown St. Louis. The vision for the new Gateway Motorsports Park is to create a racing lifestyle that attracts enthusiasts, professionals, amateurs, and street-car lovers of all kinds by harnessing the grassroots momentum, energy, and passion of the thousands of racing enthusiasts and fans in the area. Track owners have a five-year multimillion-dollar capital-improvement campaign that will put Gateway Motorsports Park in a position to succeed. Plans are under way for development of a nationally sanctioned karting track, and the dragstrip was repaved in December.

More than 125 events are scheduled for 2012, one of the largest drag racing schedules in the history of Gateway. The first racing event at Gateway was held in 1997.
