NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series JEGS Cajun SPORTSnationals, No Problem Raceway

WESTCOTT SR. LEADS SATURDAY WINNERS AT NO PROBLEM RACEWAY

            BELLE ROSE, La. (March 17, 2012) – Day two was packed with racing action for the 9th Annual JEGS Cajun SPORTSnationals at No Problem Raceway as fans were treated to final qualifying for all classes and elimination rounds for a number of specialty races.         
            Leading Saturday’s winners was Charlie Westcott Sr. of Parma, Mich., in the Super Stock Hemi “Chootout” for the 1968 Dodge Darts and Dodge Barracudas.  Westcott ran the quickest time of eliminations with an 8.451 second run at 158 mph over Jim Pancake, Delaware, Ohio, with an 8.548, 155.13.  Westcott qualified No. 4 and beat Fred Henson in the semifinals to advance to the final.  Westcott’s son, Charlie Jr. lost in round two to Henson, Madisonville, Texas, when he suffered clutch problems.
            Earl Folse ran down Jerry Tucker in the final of the Top Sportsman Shootout after getting loose right off the starting line.  The Raceland, La., racer regained traction and passed Tucker, Lindsay, Okla., when Tucker suffered engine problems about half track.  Folse crossed the line in 6.745 seconds at 215.24 mph for the win.
            In the Top Dragster Shootout it was Robert LeJeune, Lafayette, La., launching to a 6.423 second run at 211.20 mph for the win over P J Vicari, Marrero, La., who shook the tires right off the start and could only watch LeJeune disappear down track.           
            In the King of the Bayou Super Shootouts it was Steve Hoyt, Fort Wayne, Ind., taking the Super Gas title and the King’s Crown with a 9.931 second lap at 154.71 mph with a 0.033 second package over Shannon Brinkley.   Bart Nelson, La Porte, Texas, won in Super Comp and Greg Brotherton, Mena, Ark., took the win in Super Street over Pierre Part, La., racer Scott Settoon Jr.
            The final trophy of the night went to Brad Zaskowski, Belding, Mich., in the Stock/Super Stock CIC race over Dave Layer, Dayton, Ohio.
Kevin Self jumped to the top in Comp Eliminator with his ’32 roadster going 7.820 seconds, 0.640 under the index and is followed by Alabama racer David Rampy, Piedmont, Ala., crossing the finish line in 7.222 seconds, 0.618 under in his dragster.
            The first three spots in the Sunset Racecraft Top Dragster reside here in Louisiana with Michael Kile holding onto the No. 1 spot out of Westlake, running 6.194 seconds at 219.36 mph.  LeJeune and P J Vicari, Marrero, La., are second and third respectively.  LeJeune went 6.459 seconds at 210.24 mph and Vicari recorded a lap of 6.467, 208.54
            Folse leads the Suburban Chevrolet Top Sportsman class with a 211.06 mph run in 6.554 seconds with Bert Prejean, Saint Amant, La., landing the No. 2 position at 6.607, 205.57.
            The Stock and Super Stock classes combined for a special CIC Index race today with XXX coming out on top and taking home the trophy and the cash.  John Duzac and Dan Jacobs’ No. 1 qualifying efforts in Stock and Super Stock from Friday carried over as they will lead their classes into Sunday’s eliminations.  Duzac runs a ’67 Camaro out of Covington, La., and Jacobs is from Elizabeth, Ind., with his ’67 Chevy II.
Racing continues Sunday at No Problem Raceway.  Gates open at 7 a.m. Round one of eliminations is scheduled for 9 a.m.  Top Sportsman, Top Dragster and Comp round one is at 10 a.m.  Tickets are $20.  For more information, call No Problem Raceway (985) 369-3692 or visit www.noproblemraceway.com.
