Roth Racing returns to PMRA for 2012 season with 1941 Willys

Team worked off-season in obtaining more success in getting power to the track

KITCHENER, ONTARIO (March 14, 2012) – No major changes are planned for the Roth Racing Willys Pro Modified as the team enters their sixth season of Pro Modified Racing Association competition.

We're not going to be doing a whole lot to the car, said team owner Jim Roth. Certainly nothing wild and crazy.

With son Jeff Roth behind the wheel of the 1941 Willys, the team placed fourth in PMRA Championship Point Award Series in 2011. They qualified for all six PMRA events, and the year was highlighted with a final-round showing during the Stratford Spectacular Hot August Nationals presented by Ideal Supply & NAPA Auto Parts at Grand Bend. Although losing to Eric Latino in this final, Roth motored by both PMRA champion Vito Montesano and Kenny Lang to meet up with Latino.

The Lowdown Hot Rods chassis is fitted with a Alan Johnson 526-cubic inch supercharged engine courtesy of Atchison Racing, fitted with a PSI Superchargers screw blower and an Atchison Racing fuel system. A Bruno's Automotive Lenco three-speed transmission sits behind the engine.

Dave Bankes is crew chief for the team, assisted by Larry Summerfield, Marc McCrae and Ashley Roth. Sponsorship is provided by Oak Grove Cheese, NGK Spark Plugs, Fire Core 50, Dragstar, and The Strand Hair Salon.

Roth noted that the team welcomes and is pleased to have Shellbourne Fuels on board as a sponsor. This Oakville, Ontario-based firm started working with Roth last season with specially-blended fuels for the team's Pro Modified.

We're quite enthused to have Shellbourne with us, Roth noted. They are real racing people and provide a wide range of custom-blended fuels for several types of racing, including drag racing.

Roth also said the team has spent time in the off-season working on methods in getting the power of the engine to the rear wheels properly.

We've been learning how to get the power to the track, he said. Dave (Bankes), Larry (Summerfield), and Marc (McCrae) have spent a lot of time researching different combinations, and we've been redefining our efforts at this.

The PMRA gets underway this year with the season-opening Victoria Day Weekend Challenge at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park May 18-20.
