GLENDORA, Calif. (Jan. 14, 2011) – NHRA announced today the return of U.S. 19 Dragway in Albany, Ga., and the addition of Holly Springs Dragway in Holly Springs, Miss., to the list of NHRA sanctioned dragstrips.
U.S. 19 Dragway rejoins the NHRA family of tracks after a brief hiatus following the 2008 season. Holly Springs Dragway joined the NHRA sanctioned tracks group mid-year during the 2010 season, but will have its first full season of competition in 2011.
Racers from the two tracks’ 2011 point series will qualify for the Southeast Division NHRA Summit Racing Series Finals. Division champions from each of the NHRA’s seven geographic divisions advance to the NHRA Summit Racing Series national championship held in conjunction with the Auto Club NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, Calif., Nov. 10-13.
As an NHRA sanctioned track, both U.S. 19 Dragway and Holly Springs Dragway will be eligible to host and offer racers a variety of NHRA racing opportunities, including the National DRAGSTER Challenge, NHRA King of the Track, and NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League Challenge. Additionally, the track will continue to run weekly racing programs for high school, street legal and sportsman bracket racing competitors.
“We’re very excited to have both U.S. 19 Dragway and Holly Springs Motorsports in the NHRA family,” said Rich Schaefer, NHRA Southeast Division Director. “Tim Pafford, General Manager at U.S. 19 Dragway is a true promoter. He fills the seats with spectators because he understands that we’re selling ‘fun.’ When U.S. 19 opens its gates for an event, everyone on both sides of the fence know that they’re going to have a great time at the track.
“With Holly Springs Dragway, there is a deep racing history in that part of the country, and Holly Springs is a part of it. Building up the sport of NHRA Drag Racing in west Tennessee and Mississippi is a strong focus for the Southeast Division and working with Holly Springs is an essential part of that mission. I look forward to getting over there this summer and watching some of the mean Street classes on the track.”
