Summit SuperSeries field expanded from eight cars to 16 in each class
Norwalk, Ohio, January 21, 2011 – The International Hot Rod Association and Summit Racing Equipment are proud to announce the expansion of the highly popular Summit SuperSeries program for 2011 and beyond.
Entering its 10th season, the Summit SuperSeries field will expand from eight cars in both the Box and No Box classes to 16 car fields in both divisions. Summit Racing Equipment will also increase the Summit SuperSeries fund by $16,000 to guarantee each driver tow money in addition to the regular SuperSeries purse.
"The Super Series is a great program that has been well received by the racers and track operators. " said Jim Greenleaf, Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports and Events Manager. "With all of the positive feedback we have received about the program at the World Finals over the last several years we worked with the IHRA to find a way to take it to the next level. Expanding the number of racers that will be eligible to compete for the Championship should make for a very competitive Super Series Finals in October."
The expansion will not only allow more grassroots racers a chance to experience the excitement of being a part of the World Finals weekend, but it will create a more compelling championship tournament thanks to the inclusion of additional drivers to the field.
In the 10 years since the Summit SuperSeries program began, it has grown into the most lucrative grassroots racing program in the country and has been the basis for the substantial increase in IHRA member tracks over the past few years.
Designed to reward drivers at the local level, the Summit SuperSeries takes each track champion from participating SuperSeries tracks and advances them to the Summit Team Finals, where each driver has a chance to advance to the World Championship runoff at the end of the year. At the Summit Team Finals, the drivers square off in one of two divisions and a winner is determined in the Box and No Box classes. Those drivers then advance to the World Finals to join other regional champions and wild card winners for a chance to compete for the most lucrative sportsman prize package in drag racing.
