GILA RIVER INDIAN COMMUNITY – Dec. 15, 2009 – Arizona’s mild weather makes it a popular destination for athletes preparing for the upcoming season. Everyone knows baseball fans nationwide descend upon the Grand Canyon State every March prior to the Major League season.
Baseball doesn’t have a monopoly, however, when it comes to preseason preparation in Arizona. This January, while much of the country reaches for snow shovels, the stars of the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) will reach for their gear shifts in order to get dialed in for the 2010 Full Throttle Drag Racing Series during the NAPA Auto Parts National Time Trials, scheduled for Jan. 22-24 at Firebird International Raceway.
With the Sonoran Desert sun basking overhead, the sport’s top drivers will have one final opportunity to ensure their vehicles are ready for when the Green Light goes on for real! And much like baseball’s Spring Training, where fans mingle with players and get right up close to the action, NHRA fans can stroll through the pits and meet their heroes, all in a fan friendly atmosphere.
As a special added bonus, for the first time in Time Trials history, 16 Nitro Nostalgia Cars will burn up the Firebird track all weekend long.
In addition to offering drivers the chance to prepare for the season as a whole, the NAPA Auto Parts National Time Trials provides a great opportunity for the drivers to get more familiar with Firebird’s track prior to the NHRA Arizona Nationals, scheduled for Feb. 19-21.
A great holiday gift for any racing fan, admission to the NAPA Auto Parts National Time Trials with Pit Pass ranges from $18 to $28 at the gate. Suite tickets, trackside RV spots and group tickets are also available.
Racing fans purchasing their tickets in advance at http://www.firebirdraceway.com/ or by calling 602-268-0200 can take advantage of a $3 discount on all admissions with Pit Pass. Spectator gates will open at 8 am each day, with the track going “Hot” at 8:30 am.
