RIP Don Woosley TAD & A/FD

Drag racing lost one of its most colorful personalities and successful racers when Kentucky's Don Woosley left us this week. Don was a Pro Comp terror back in the 1970s and 1980s, eventually winning the world championship in 1982. In addition to on-track success, he was one of the sport's most popular and quotable racers. Draglist.com extends its sympathies to all of Don's family and friends. Don's obituary follows, thanks to Dave Huber.

Don C. Woosley, 63, of Finley Road, passed away Monday, Dec. 14, at 12:55 p.m. at his home. He was born in Louisville on Nov. 16 to Jack G. and Beatrice (Lively) Stone, who survives in Danville. He was the owner of Wheels Inc., a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 1970s and 1980s NHRA most-winning driver and 1982 NHRA World Championship winner. Out of seven to nine years, he won the division three times. He was also an avid catfisherman. In addition to his parents, he is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Lowrey Clayton Woosley, Donald J. Woosley and Christopher Dale (Lori) Woosley, all of Winchester; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim L. (Linda) Woosley of Winchester, Jack G. (Teresa) Stone Jr. of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Paul (Stephanie) Stone of Danville; two grandsons, Jason Michael Woosley and Julian Marley Woosley; and one granddaughter, Randi Lynn Woosley.
