NHRA Summit Racing Series, Saturday from Firebird Raceway, Boise, Idaho

NORTHWEST CHAMPIONS HEADING TO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

BOISE, Idaho (September 3, 2011) – Dale Green led the NHRA Summit Racing Series Race of Champions winners today at Firebird Raceway along with Paul Comeau of Vancouver, Wash., and Portland Int’l Raceway. The two will be joined by Mark Faul, and Kevin Brennan in advancing to the NHRA Summit Racing Series National Championship in November at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, Calif., to face off with the winners from the six other NHRA divisions across the country.



Green, Covington, Wash., and running for Pacific Raceways ran down Jerry Odman, Pendleton, Ore., (Walla Walla Raceway) to capture the Super Pro category going 7.50 seconds at 151.92 mph in his ’98 dragster. Comeau, Portland Int’l Raceway grabbed the win in Pro with his ’39 Chevy over Troy Johnston, Keyport, Wash., and Bremerton Raceway.

Tacoma, Wash., racer Faul, put his ’51 Chevy in the winner’s circle for the Sportsman class with a 13.21 second, 91.43 mph victory over Robert Schaffer, Hillsboro, Ore. Faul runs for Medicine Hat Raceway while Schaffer was representing Woodburn Dragstrip. Brennan, Chilliwack, B.C., CAN., and Mission Raceway Park, posted an 8.64 second lap on his ’92 Suzuki at 147.10 mph for the win against teammate Al Omond, Surrey, B.C., on his Kawasaki.

Local racer Christopher Northup won for the home team and Firebird Raceway in the High School class with his ’66 Impala bettering Brandon Murthi, Delta, B.C., CAN. In the Jr. Drag Racing ranks it was Brianna Lindsey, Puyallup, Wash., (Bremerton Raceway) winning the Thunder category over Bradee Lowe, Agissiz, B.C., (Mission Raceway) and Ken Lang, Portland, Ore., (Portland Int’l Raceway) over Charlie Dietrich, Battle Ground, Wash., (Portland Int’l Raceway) in the Lightning class.

In Friday night’s gamblers race Darrell Pasher and Paul Jordan took the wins in the Electronics and No Electronics classes respectively. Pasher, Spokane, Wash., (Spokane County Raceway) held off Nick Nicholson, Vancouver, Wash., (Portland Int’l Raceway) in his ’75 Monza for the win and while Jordan, Butte, Mont., out of Lost Creek Raceway, drove his ’70 Duster to victory over Jeff Staley, also of Vancouver, (Portland Int’l Raceway). In the Motorcycle class, Dan Funderburg, Federal Way, Wash., (Pacific Raceways) defeated Buff Kobs, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, (Spokane County Raceway) and Ashley Lindsey, Puyallup, Wash., (Bremerton Raceway) took the trophy in Jr. Dragster over Courtney Widhalm, Yakima, Wash. (Renegade Raceway)

Sunday’s eliminations get underway at 8:30 a.m. with gates opening at Firebird Raceway at 8 a.m. Tickets for the event are $15 for adults, kids 6-12 are $5 and toddlers 5 and under are free. Firebird Raceway is located 5 miles north of Highway 44 on Highway 16 (the Emmett Highway).
