Jeff Roth and Eric Latino to contest delayed round in 2011 PMRA tour at Grand Bend


Pro Modifieds return for track's "Thunder by the Beach" September 2-4 weekend to finish round four, and then continue with round five in popular drag racing action

GRAND BEND, ONTARIO (August 24, 2011) – Eric Latino will be going for his second win this season in Pro Modified Racing Association competition as a finalist in the postponed fourth round of PMRA racing.

But Latino, of Whitby, Ontario, will be facing Jeff Roth of New Dundee, Ontario in the rescheduled final, which was cancelled due to rain at the recent Stratford Spectacular Hot August Nationals held August 4-7 at the Grand Bend Motorplex.

The final pairing will determine the winner of this fourth race on the six-race PMRA tour for 2011. It will be held during the September 2-4 running of the "Thunder by the Beach" event at Grand Bend. After this race is completed, the PMRA will continue with its next round of drag racing action over the Labor Day 
weekend.

Latino, who drives the Team Green 1969 Camaro, qualified number one for the shortened race with a 5.971, 240.51 posting. Driving the J Roth Racing 1941 Willys Pro Mod, Roth qualified number three with a 6.125, 230.76 showing. Latino's numbers set Low ET and Top Speed of the race.

Latino, who has one victory to his credit in 2011, eliminated number eight qualifier Ike Maier of Tottenham, Ontario and Mark Nielsen of Brantford, Ontario, who qualified fifth, to get to the final. 

Roth eliminated the last PMRA winner, 1969 Camaro driver and number six qualifier Kenny Lang of Grande Pointe, Manitoba, and Vito Montesano of Maple, Ontario and his 1968 Camaro, who qualified seventh.

Leading the PMRA 2011 Championship Point Award Series presented by Magnum Auto Parts and Patio Passport at present is Montesano, with 1047 points. Tied for second are Latino and three-time PMRA champion Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario, with 1034 points each. Next is Roth with 1022 points, and Nielsen is fifth with 1004 points.

During the rain-shortened race at Grand Bend, Jay Dos Santos Halton Hills, Ontario won the ERD (Engine Research & Development) Consolation final over Derek Hawker of Corbyville, Ontario. 


The upcoming round in the Pro Modified Racing Association over the Labor Day weekend at Grand Bend will be held in conjunction with their companion series, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series. This will be the finish of the postponed fourth event, and then the fifth event in the 2011 six-race series. 

The weekend will also feature Nostalgia Nitro Funny Cars, a wheelstander and jet car action.

On Friday September 2 there will be a Test & Tune session beginning at 11 am, the gates open to the public at 3:00 pm, and the first qualifying round in the PMRA, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the PBSS takes place at 7:15 pm.

After Time Trial sessions for Bracket racers on Saturday afternoon, qualifying continues at 4 pm for the PMRA, www.PMRA.ca, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, www.Quick32.ca, and the PBSS, www.PBSS.ca, as well as round one for the Nostalgia Nitro Funny Cars, Wheelstander and Jet Cars. The semi-final PBSS eliminations for the postponed Stratford Spectacular event will also take place at this time. At 7 pm qualifying and the show cars return, and the evening closes with fireworks. The final eliminations in all three series from the postponed Stratford Spectacular will be held just before this regularly scheduled show.

At 11:15 am Sunday September 4 eliminations begin along with a return of the Nostalgia Nitro Funny Cars, the Wheelstander and Jet Cars. Eliminations for the PMRA, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the PBSS will continue through the day, with the final rounds scheduled for 5 pm.
